Thats funny, I was talking to an AT&T regional sales manager the other day at lunch. I showed him the Inspire I had bought 2 hours before meeting him. I told him that they were offering an awesome phone for a good price and I think their customers will appreciate the value. He told me the "Inspire" story about how it's basically a Desire HD for the USA. He said that people love the Desire in Europe and why not bring the same phone to the US, especially considering the low costs of manufacturing a duplicate phone. He talked about the 4G strategy they are following. The HSPA+ backhaul thing is critical to their 4G LTE plan. They will have both going at the same time with HSPA+ covering places that LTE isnt. He said that Verizon customers will go from 12 Mbps to 900 kbps when the LTE signal isn't working. AT&T customers will go from 12 Mbps to 5-6 Mbps - a much more acceptible change. Anyway - I told him to HURRY UP!!!

After about a full week with this phone my results are generally good. my previous smartphone couldn't go four hours (with light browsing) without going dead on me.
so i take it off the charger at about 5:45 in the morning. head to work and throughout the 8 hour work day i do a moderate amount of web browsing. and by the time i am finished with work at about 3pm i'm at 55% battery. which can last me the rest of the day until i go to bed around 11pm. if this is what a 1230mAh battery can do for me i am extremely satisfied.

Please do. I've seen these batteries on the bay and have been wondering about the quality. I'll probably be moving from my Captivate to an Inspire in another month so I'm interested in the different battery options for this phone.

My opinion of these "1500 ma-hr" batteries is that they're mismarked - on purpose. To do a real batter test means putting a fixed load on it and monitoring the voltage discharge curve. Just putting it in the phone means its life is dictated by what apps you're running and for how long. How can you quantify the results? If this magic battery had twice the capacity it might be pretty obvious if it's lasting a lot longer, but when it claims +20%, without proper testing, it's all psychological whether you think it really lasts longer.

I upgraded from a BB9700 to the Torch. Went back to the store two days later because well it just sucked! The rep convinced me to try the Inspire on the day it released. I have not looked back sense. The htc Inspire is far superior no matter how you cut it.

After owning the phone since release, I'm now very happy with the battery life. It comes off the charger at 5:30 am, and 12 hrs later is at about 50% with moderate use. Granted there's always users who stream videos for hours who'll complain it doesn't last, but for MOST users, battery life is just fine.

The complaints about the battery's small capacity seem to be based on just that, the small capacity, not how long the phone lasts. It's like someone complaining that the gas tank in a new car is small, yet don't bother to check what mileage it gets. If it gets you from here to there on one tank is what's important.

Think of it this way, if the Atrix was a car and the owner brags that "my gas tank is bigger than yours", that means nothing if it gets sucky mileage.

Same here. I use it for about 12 hours and consistently have 40-50% left. I don't stream videos or music but text, email, call, and surf the web moderately. I'm very pleased with the performance of the "small" battery.

Well, I recently made my own thread about a battery issue I'm having, but thought it was relevant here too.

So, my girlfriend and I both picked up HTC Inspire 4Gs about a week and a half ago. For most of that time, everything was fine and we both got a full day off of a charge, after I had configured both of them to turn off always-on wireless data, turning down screen brightness, etc (following advice in this forum - thanks!).

Well, now there's an issue.

Last night, for instance, we charged our phones at the same time. When the light was green, we took them both off the chargers, fully charged, at about 8PM.

The phones sat next to eachother overnight, and I went to check them this morning, and see that, under these same conditions, her phone retained a 100% charge, while mine had drained itself overnight to 40%!

I noticed this happening to a lesser extent the day before, which is why I performed this test, and I even ended process on some of my apps while charging, such as the browser.

Is my battery a lemon? Any ideas?

Some of you are saying that you can actually USE it for 12 hours and have 40% left, and I used to be able to do that as well, but now all of a sudden that's how long it takes when IDLE to get to 40%.

For those of you whose Inspires used to get good battery performance, but then suddenly and inexplicably began to suffer extremely bad performance, I can share my personal experience. My phone was fine for the first 7 days of use, unplugged it before I went to bed at 100%, woke up after 7-8 hours of sleepy with the phone at 93%. Then one day I woke up and noticed the battery was at about 35%. That's 65% battery consumption from nothing but being idle. Well, I finally figured out the problem was with the wifi connection. I have no idea what the explanation is, but I know that after I reset my wireless router, my phone's battery life went back to normal. The only problem is, I'm now having to reset my router roughly once per week, or else the wifi connection will eventually go into battery draining mode and kill my phone's battery. I suspect the issue is with my router and not the phone. Although my gf's iphone exhibits no such problems while being connected to the same router. I've flashed my router's firmware and am waiting to see if that has fixed the problem.

Arrived this Thursday, charged it up for 5 hours (till it was 100%), went in the Inspire at 3pm. It is now Saturday 12pm and so far it's at 47% with no charging in between.

Up Time: 46 Hours

Awake Time: 3 hours 40 Minutes

So I'm thinking, it'll last me about 3 1/2 - 4 full days before charging it to 100% again. And I'm a minimum to moderate user. So to a heavy user, it might make it 2 whole days before a charge.

well if u get an inspire plus a replacement battery, it'll still cost less than the iphone itself. so whats the point? and the replacement battery would be 3 TIMES BETTER than the stock iphone battery. the better choice (in my opinion) is to get the inspire and replacement battery.

Not actually a first, Havokid. There are many reports of this throughout forums. Maybe not for the Inspire, but for many other phones. Though "explode" may be a slight exageration. Anyway, I appreciate your input and battery reports. I am also waiting for a Chinese battery. Will let you all know how it goes. (Fingers crossed)


One thing that was killing my battery was that my wifi was on all the time. I was used to my iPhone, which deactivated the wifi when away from home. Once I manually shut off the wifi my battery got much better longetivity. Pretty obvious, I know.

I get a full day out of my battery now, but I've turned off "always-on mobile data". That really seems to make a difference. As to what that does exactly, I can't tell you since I haven't noticed. My work emails are on push from 7am to 4pm daily and syncs every 30 minutes after that.

I surf the net at night, check emails all day, about an hour of phone calls a day on average, bluetooth is on for about 2-3 hours a day and WiFi is on for 8 hours or so. Usually when I plug it in at night I'm between 30 and 15% remaining. Not to bad if you ask me. I don't mind plugging it in every night, had to do that with my iPhone4 anyhow.
