Help multiple contacts in phone book?

Idk if this is quite what you mean, but if you go to People, hit Menu then View, it takes you to a filter if you want to filter the multiple contacts.

I have this same issue and have set my phone to only list the contacts stored on my phone (not twitter, sim card, etc). When I open the People app it only shows the contacts on my phone, but when I go to call someone I have multiple contacts listed from my phone and sim card. Anyone know how to set the actual phone to only list one set of contacts since filtering "People" to just phone doesn't work?

Anyone know the answer to this? Still haven't had any luck figuring it out. Really tired of trying to call someone and wading through multiple listings for the same contact. Yes, I have unchecked everything under people, but that made no difference in the actual phone part of the phone. When I go to dial, it lists several contacts for the same person. It appears that it is showing both contacts stored on the SD card (the sd picture is next to the name) and on the phone (shows their picture or the standard blank person). Help please.

Contacts are displayed for Facebook, Google, and SIM card.
See: People app - Menu - View - Options

If you display all types of contacts, then you will likely have duplicate entries. I found that if you edit each of your Google contacts to include a phone number and email address, then the Inspire will link the Google, Facebook, and SIM entry for that person.

I already stated that I have only my phone contacts checked in that menu. I don't have facebook and Google and Sim are unchecked. When I open up people app it only shows my phone contacts (which is what I want). HOWEVER, when I go to dial a number both my sim and phone contacts are shown which leads to duplicate entries for everyone. I want to know if I can set my phone to only show one set of contacts when dialing.

The phone app/dialer displays ALL available contacts (Facebook, Google, SIM) regardless of what you have filtered out in the people app. If duplicates are showing in the phone dialer, then those contacts need to be linked.

Except that you can't link SIM contacts to anything. I'm having the same issue. It seems like the only way to clean it up under Phone would be to delete the SIM contacts and I really don't want to do that. This is quite a ballache.

You can convert your SIM contacts to Google contacts. Even if you only have a name and phone number, that person can be saved as a Google contact. Then with those being stored on Google, you could delete your SIM contacts.

True. I've already imported all my SIM contacts to my phone. I'm just worried about removing them from the SIM card in case something malfunctions or my phone breaks (I had a screen black out before) and I lose them from the phone.

I am havin the same issue but I have nexus one so I do not have people but contact icon...
Yes, I think my Nexus used to have a feature that just allow you to link multiple or duplicate contacts before but ever since I got it back from being factory reset, it is no longer there. I called the support today and they asked me to go into my google contact and merge my entire duplicate contacts...I try to do this but it is still not working for me. I went into contacts and under it I picked find and merge all duplicate contacts

Sorry if this is an expired thread: had exactly the same problem and solved it via contact analyzer 2.
Its not the flashest piece of SW around (force closes if you edit (but not delete or merge) a contact under ICS)- but it showed me Google contacts that I couldnt see any other way and enable me to clear my book and get rid of those Dialer duplicates! Highly recommended.
