Root can i un-root my epic?

I got it rooted, and since, ive had to restore twice and batery pull constantly.. is there a way to undo root access, ide rather just have a bad ass phone that works, rather than a bad ass phone with more capabilities, that DOESNT work..

you can always Odin back to stock, and that will remove your root. what setup are you running that's giving you all those problems?

aye aye, i did some independent digging on some of the other forums while waiting for the answer and did just that, used odin to get right back to stock 2.1. I only had just rooted, mainly for CPU control..though i did use the one-click root, which was probably a bad idea.. at anyrate, she's good as new now.

ah ok, glad you got it back to where you wanted it. on what rom/kernel were you trying to use cpu control? the only time it really works is when you're running a custom 2.1 kernel/rom. otherwise it's probably gonna cause a lot of issues.

Ya actually the kernal needs to support it, if it doesnt it will cause instability. Overclocking isnt really recommended for any length of time as it can cause the cpu to fry, although underclocking is useful for prolonging battery life. Kinda a fine line imo.

I hadnt even gotten a new rom/kernel in yet, just wanted to make sure it was working. but, i think.. at this point as i'm inexperienced with these things i'll leave it be now.like i said, i'de rather have a bad ass phone that works.. than a brick.

When you use Odin to flash back to a stock version of the phone, EVERYTHING is wiped. This, in most cases, will save your phone from being bricked. I bricked my phone two times trying to flash a custom rom before I figured out what to do.

Correct.

Get an app (I use mybackup pro) and run a back up before you do it. Then you can reinstall all your apps very easily.

Actually, I think the one I listed is for rooted phones only. You can use AppMonster to back up all your apps to your sd card and then reinstall.

Personally, I went through a lot of trials and tribulations over the last few weeks but now I'm rooted, running a custom rom and loving it!

the only reason you rooted was to increase the cpu speed?

I hate to say it but its like you got a car and put a bolt on turbo on there for more power but kept blowing things having to replace them - but on these phones there isnt any replacing of parts its just a reboot and battery pull

when you overclock you can have problems thats something I learned 20 years ago with computers - IMO the main reason to root is the wifi tether and the custom roms

not if you love the battery life increase that comes with setcpu

yea, I forgot about underclocking the CPU - I used that a lot on my palm pre because battery life sucked, but the phone was slow as hell

I guess thats cool if you want your phone slow

personally I have it at normal and I have great battery life - also there is no reason why I cant plug it in at least 3 times a day - everywhere I go in my car I can leave it plugged in and when I get to a friends house they usually have the same charger so I can plug it in there also

I really have great battery life after the EB14 update - I can get like 5 hours of continuous talk time before I am at 20% battery

i do have a question about unrooting. i'm rooted with the One click root and recovery for the epic 4g V2.55 with clockworkmod redirector. i was researching/ reading that i can still receive ota updates if i've never installed any roms, kernals, etc and if i never deleted any bloatware. is this true? the only thing i did was root my phone to basically get shootme to work (sad but true...i heart that app). i've left everything else as is. now i am on the once official release of froyo but i got it via samsung's website and used the sd card/ update.zip file method. sprint told me that i could still receive the ota of the new froyo even though i have the "un"official version they released. what i didn't tell them was that i rooted my phone. so that's my question...can i still get the ota if i'm rooted? also if we are able to update to the EC05 froyo can i use the sd card/ update.zip file method again? do i have to delete any file or files from my sd card ie. the EB13 zip file and the clock work mod file that was created on my card when i rooted? thanks for all the help!
