okay, I think after all the reviews and searches online, my brain is going to blow off!! I am planning to buy an android phone for the first time and it's either HTC desire or samsung galaxy s i9000....both on froyo....
I really like galaxy s, but after reading many reviews about it's lags and problems, I am a bit reluctant.I have no problem with camera,or GPS....but I want one with good UI and reliability...
I had samsung innov8 for one year and it really disappointed me in the end, all it's body paint scratched off easily and it was dead within one year!!
I just want reliable phone, with good amount of memory and apps etc....please help me decide because I have heard more regrets abt sgs than htc desire from reviews!!
thnks

Wait a month then you could choose between htc desire s, or samsung galaxy sii.

Samsung will be duel core with good looking specs. Desire s has new sense, front and back camera, slightly more internal phone memory than original desire but keeps its sleek size :)

Lg 2x would also be worth considering if for hdmi mirroring alone.

Might as well go new tech if buying at the moment.

I'd go for the desire anytime, I used to have the jet and wasn't very impressed with samsungs support for it. Get the desire and you have loads of options available to you, check out the rooting guides. I can guarantee you wont get bored with the desire!!

okay, I really am attracted towards galaxy I don't know why, maybe the big screen :) I will check the guides out.thnks

It depends !
Are you planning to use the phone as it is out of the box ?

If yes, go for the desire, it's way more reactiv than the galaxy s. The only problem : you'll be limited on the number of app you can install (even with froyo!).

If rooting and flashing don't scare you, choice will be harder ;)

yes I want to use without all that rooting and flashing cuz I am no techo-person on these stuff!! how much limited I can be, by the way, I don't plan to use a lot of apps! I think I might just opt for desire, hoping it's memory is not too limited :)

If not rooting make sure you download a good app2sd app and use app brain to search for apps that are app2sd enabled, that way you can make the most of what memory you have, they are both good phones but the Samsung has more memory. But I still prefer my desire!!

okay. It's more confusing to take decision now but I will surely sort it out :)

Problem with Samsung is the updates. They come too late, and sometimes never come.

This is true. It seems like a done deal that the Desire will get 2.3 which should keep it just about relevant for the length of a 2 year contract if that's what you are getting. Can't imagine that there will be many apps in the next 2 years that don't support gingerbread.

Galaxy on the other hand. Hmmmm anyone want to bet their phone that it will ever seen an official 2.3 update?

Edit: having said that allegedly 2.3 is coming to the Galaxy in March! so maybe ill have to eat my gingerbread words ;o)

yes, they do have updates too.
I think I am in the 'htc' forum, everyone will surely suggest me htc desire. But I am opting for samsung galaxy S!
If price was a problem, I wouldn't have any need to ask! I know the best phones around :)
cheers:D

Well then I would in all honesty prefer desire over sgs because the sgs is such a fugly looking phone with its cheap shiny plastic it uses. When I viewed sgs in shop, it was buggy to the point of unusable although there are fixes for that apparently. Htc seem to support upgrades quicker than samsung, especially since I have an unlocked phone, only had 2.1 software for a month before I upgraded to 2.2

If I used the phone mainly for games then the sgs has better graphics, but if games is what I am into then I would have gone iphone 4 tbh. For internet which is what I wanted phone for, desire was best fire one simple reason, automatic text reflow...

The phone memory, sound on loud speakers and camera quality in low light are the low points of the desire. Sgs on the other hand has no flash but better graphics and apparently multimedia is slightly better although I find multimedia content on the desire to be very good too.

consider your usage and purchase the phone that best suites that :)

If we narrow it down to Galaxy S or Desire, the here are some points I think that make Desire a better choice:
* Desire is more pocketable, so more suited for daily usage.
* Desire has the fantastic HTC Sens UI, which is in every aspect better than Samsung Touchviz.
* Desire is cheaper!
* Desire has a better build quality.
* Desire has HTC Support, which is better than Samsung support.
* Desire has less issues than Galaxy S (GPS, memory, lags, buggy SW and drivers, etc...).
* Desire has a bit more RAM than Galaxy S.
* Desire has a camera LED flash, which is missing in Galaxy S.
* Desire has more custom ROMs available than Galaxy S.
* Desire wins from Galaxy S in Quadrant benchmark...:p

how come desire has no memory issue, okay, can I shift my apps from internal memory to sd card ? I heard 99% of the apps wouldn't move...or is it possible to do now?
what are custom rom ?
