Help Calendar Sync NOT allowed

My employer actively prevents us from running Google Calendar Sync. Probably something about copying appointment info to the web.

Anyone know how to get Outlook appointments into your Nexus One without them being copied out into the cloud?

You can export your appointments from Outlook then import them into Google Calendar. See Migrate events from other applications - Google Calendar Help for info on exporting from Outlook and Import events from iCalendar or CSV files - Google Calendar Help for info on importing to Google Calendar.

I have the same issue with my employer. They have two concerns: 1) Third Party "non-work related" software, and 2) sensitive information leaking to the outside world.

The trick though....how do you export Entourage to Google Calendars? This has been killing me.

If anyone has any good ideas please let me know. I tried Calgoo, but that only pushes iCal out.....and syncing Entourage with iCal always drops meetings and causes errors.

So looking for an Entourage to Google Cal please?

My employer prohibits that too, you may want to double check the wording, its done to prevent copying company calendar data to personal devices ot just google calendar. usually companies that prohibit one (google) prohibit the other (personal phone/pda).

Good Point Eugene. I'll look into this, BUT are you implying that it is possible to put calendar data on the phone but not in the database for the google calendar webapp? I've jumped to the conclusion that the calendar app on the phone is basically just a front end for the webapp meaning that all data is stored on their servers. Am I wrong? Is there an option to keep appointments local to the device?

Thanks JohnKuczek. This will help with the initial setup of the calendar but I'm looking for something that will sync the appointments regularly.

If you turn airplane mode, disableing the phone/data you can still use the calendar so it appears they are stored on it locally. You could disable the calendar sync to have it outside the cloud.

I wouldn't bet that your offline data isn't flushed to the cloud once you come out of airplane mode. At least gmail and I think maybe calendar to have offline modes for the desktop, but I suspect that the database of record is still in the cloud. Just a guess though.

I was only meaning to use airplane mode to demonstrate you can access calendar data with no connection to show its local.
You would disable calendar sync once a desktop sync app was working

I use Touchdown for Exchange e-mail. Then I use Google Calendar Sync on my computer to import my Exchange calendar items into my G Calendar.
Easy and automatic.

Anyone figure out snycing Entourage Calendar to your Google Calendar? Calgoo doesn't seem to work.

Where is the MAC love up in here??? ha

I use Touchdown for Exchange e-mail. Then I use Google Calendar Sync on my computer to import my Exchange calendar items into my G Calendar.
Easy and automatic.

I've installed Touchdown and it works quite well, but I have one question I'm hoping you (or anyone else who knows) can answer...

How do you accept calendar meeting invites in the Touchdown calendar app? I don't see anything that allows me to respond with Accept, Tentative or Decline as you would do in Outlook. The Touchdown web site says that this function is supported, but I'm missing it some how.

Okay, I figured it out...there is an icon at the top right of the new calendar invite that opens the accept options. Works great!

I got Entourage to synch with google calendar without any problem on a mac using BusySync, which you can find at BusySync - Sync iCal and Google Calendar - from BusyMac

Have used it for a while, when iPhone's couldn't sync exchange calendars and I find BusySync by far the best one, much more reliable than Calgoo.

1. Have you by now found a solution or 3rd party app that allows full syncing of Entourage 2008, calendar and contacts? Missing sync 4 Android claims to work, but they don't do 'Categories', which is vital to me. (and I don't understand since it does work for myWinMobile phone and Entourage 2008)?

Nice to know:
2. Is it possible to keep my calendar and contact data local? If at all possible I do want to keep those out of the cloud.

3. Can you put all data and Android market apps on the microSD?

4. Do you have to take out the battery (that is switch off the phone) in order to pull out the microSD-card?

Hi, Peter, you are responding to a 6 month old thread, but I'll try to help.

1. Sorry, not much help here, not a Mac person. Categories is a tough one on modern smartphone OSs. The only app I know that really does it is Companion Link to Outlook on a PC, but even there, the apps are sandboxed and not well integrated into the Android ecosystem. This is not just Android, but iPhone and Symbian as well. The tendency with Smartphone OS that didn't start out as PDA OSs is to rely on search and maybe tagging rather than categories. I know, it's insane.

2. To clarify, Calendar and contacts data is local-- you have access even if you are disconnected. However, Android assumes you are using Google calendar and gmail contacts. The *only* alternative I know of is the previously mentioned Companion Link soulution which will sync via USB to Outlook on Windows. I don't think they have a Mac version, so you would need to look at Mark Space. However, if you can find a non-cloud syncing solution, you don't have to use a cloud solution-- the data is local.

3. No. As of Android 2.2 (Froyo) which has not been officially released yet (but probably is going to be soon), you will finally be able to move apps to the SD card, but it will up to the developer. There will be some protected apps that won't allow it. Most data already goes to the SD card.

4. Yes, simply because you are going to have a painful time getting the card in and out with the battery in the way.
