Switch from Verizon to AT&T

So in my area Verizon doesn't have any towers so I'm roaming and I only get a 1x connection. AT&T have 3G here. Is it worth switching to AT&T? Is the Android experience better or about the same on AT&T's side?

They make it so you can only load apps from the market. I hate AT&T, but stuck with them until a good dual core comes out. Every carrier seems to be good around my area, thank god...

What about rooting and ROMing? Would that solve the issue?

I am not really sure, but I don't think so. I don't have an android yet, but I will be getting one soon enough. I am not willing to get it on AT&T though.

I heard from students in the dev class that it didn't, but I could be wrong... I also heard AT&T had a plan to make it easier for developers...

When I had my captivate rooted and Rom I sideloaded apps although only a few because there wasn't that many I cared about.

So would you guys recommend sticking with Verizon and a 1x connection or switch to AT&T and have 3G? Either way, I'm rooting and ROMing my phone my next phone on either carrier as I have done with my Droid 1.

Personally, I always believe the most important consideration first is coverage. Regardless of how you feel about a carrier, you have to go with what will service you best.

At&t is starting to get a good selection of devices, and it will probably get better in the months to come now that they aren't the only Fruit stand in town.

No one can tell you what you need and what is truly important to you. Myself, I could care less about the mobile coverage, I am on Wifi 99.9% of the time, so whether my mobile experience is on Edge/3G or no G, doesn't really matter to me. It is more important that it acts like a phone when I am mobile and can send/receive emails, although knowing I can browse or use Google Maps when I need to is nice too

I went to T-Mobile for a short period of time when I got made at At&t (don't even recall the issue). It didn't last long as I was constantly roaming after I moved.

And yes, rooting allows you to delete all the crapware and load other apps onto the device.

rooting and roming does solve all the shittyness ATT puts on their Android phones. Atrix included.

Or you can just turn off the phone and remove the sim, turn the device on, get on wifi and you are around most of AT&T's app store blocks.
