Stock is 100% stock with bing and all bloat ware.

Deodexed is for the most part stock, has some bloat removed and to keep it simple they change the way the files are done to allow for addition of themes and stuff

SC is barebones, debinged, debloated, deodexed. Also there is SC 2.8 version out now. voodoo is a change in the way the files are written so it removes some lag. nonvoodoo is stock written files.

I understand you hesitance to just jump in and start on something that you're not clear on, especially as to the differences in what you're seeing as versions of rooting, etc.

Good for you to ask about it all first!

You'll see opinions about that here and there. ;)

For a first time rooter, I agree with K-rock's recommendation of http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ged-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-04-a.html

Your mileage may vary.

ok so which file would i pick from flavor of froyo?
I would prob like to do the one with out bloatware.
But then should i be messing with superclean, is it a piece of software, or just saying its superclean?
Also there are the warnings in red about "datawipe" which worries me.

Also data backup is that built in?

sorry to keep asking
Thanks eveyone

To install
1. First you will need to download and place on your sd card update.zip, download here Update.zip

Download and install drivers on your computer HERE

2. Next you will need a Froyo tar file which will be placed in the PDA section of odin.

Ok so i have the drivers from samsung but not sure what to do with the update.zip, how do i get it on sd card and do i leave it in zip form or do i need to unzip and load each?

If you're coming from Eclair just use the wipe version of superclean 2.8. If you choose the non data wipe version you could experience force closes. The only backing up you can do from eclair if youre not already rooted is your contacts. I did the all in one package as it was the easiest thing to do. I just wrote down all my apps so i could redownload them from the market. after you root and put on superclean 2.8 you should download "superuser" and either "titanium backup" or "my backup pro" to do your back ups from then on.

If you're asking what happens when Verizon pushes out the update you probably won't get it as you're already on Froyo. You won't need the update. As soon as it gets pushed out in a few days there should be much better roms out there for you to use.

Sometimes I like to start clean and not restore apps after a new flash. I use the "App List" app and e-mail myself the text file it creates. It's a lot easier than writing them all down.

Read my thread below this one... I was in the same boat and managed to get it to work. Went with the Superclean 2.9 listed there. Fixed my wifi issue eventually.

If you mess it up, you basically just end up putting the phone in download mode and trying the rom again, or a older stock rom.

Read the whole set of instructions first. Go slow. If not clear ask for help "before" doing something you probably will regret for 30 minutes.

Nope that's all you need, like JG said asking any questions you have before is the best thing to do.

No worries, we all start some where
