Not that I know if this will work but I'll offer possible things to look at...

• Try uninstalling the drivers completely (I use CCleaner to see them), reboot, then reinstall Samsung PC Studio. Plug in your phone in "normal" mode to let the PC automatically install the drivers. Then try it again.
• Another option is to try a different USB port.
• Also, make sure PC Studio IS NOT running in the background when you are running Odin. It seems to prevent you from flashing your phone.

Those are my suggestions.... Hopefully, it will work out for you.

I did what you recommended and uninstalled the driver(s) and installed Samsung PC studio and now i have no issues syncing up with Odin, but I'm still getting a "fail" message after i start the download process in Odin within 11 secs. I've tried other usb ports as well...I've tried 3 different ports with the same result. posting the messaging that i get from odin below...

1) but with the tar file (one package), what program did you use to extract it out with? i heard that winzip has issues... and to use the default windows application.

2) you're using odin 3.98?

3) you have the moment.ops file selected?

Ok, I'm new to this, but I can't get it to work.

At work I have W7 x32 and I can't get windows to recognize the driver when my phone is in "download" mode.

I also tried it on a VM of XP Pro x32 and couldn't get windows see the phone in "download" mode there either.

Both see the phone in regular mode....

At home I have an Ubuntu box and a W7 x32 box also. I'll try it when I get home but I'm not holding my breath. Anybody have any idea on how to get it installed using Linux?

Ok, I'm new to this, but I can't get it to work.

when you say it sees in regular mode - does it see it as a USB drive? do you have USB debugging on? menu>settings>applications>development

also, on your computer, are the correct drivers installed? go into your device manager - you should see adb interface and a samsung android composite adb interface installed with the following drivers (under driver file details):

c:\windows\system32\drivers\ssadadb.dll,
c:\windows\system32\drivers\wdfcoinstaller01005.dll,
c:\windows\system32\wdfcoinstaller01005.dll

1. Does this custom Kernal have any risks as for as bricking the phone?
2. When android 2.1 comes out for the moment will that be a problem?
3. Will this void the warranty on my phone?

This seems like a pretty good temporary fix till 2.1 come out.

Ok, I got Odin to recognize my phone, but 11 seconds in I get this:

I am using Odin 3.98 and I extracted the package with 7zip. I am using a Mini USB cable with a converter on the end to Micro USB. Maybe this has something to do with the problem. I will try a straight Micro when I get home.

BTW: I've gotten the phone connected in Ubuntu, I'm concerned about the flashing part of it. Is there an Odin like program for Linux?

I am very happy with the results with one exception. My phone is not sleeping like it used to. So, even though the battery meter works better, I am getting about 1/2 the life out of my battery than before the upgrade.

Spare Parts is showing that while I am sleeping, the phone is running 48-50% of the time.

I'm going to try reflashing to oringinal and the then back again to see what happens.

My Moment now wakes on its own too every couple minutes. But only while not plugged in.

I read someplace that having wifi on might do this... I don't remember where though.

I finally got this to install on my computer. I think I was still missing a driver on my work computer.

OOOOOOk, I extracted using windows instead of Winzip and I can now get past the 11 sec. mark. BUT the timer keeps roll'n. I have tried disconnecting from the usb and reconnect but it doesnt give me the option to restart the process. I have to re-start Odin and i get the same results. using Odin 3.98 guess i'll give it another go when i get off work. agian thanks for the help!

Ok so are you closing and re-opening Odie if it doesnt work the first time? or do you just unplug the usb and plug it back in and hit start? when I disconnect the usb i get a red "fail" message where it normally says "detected" then when i reconnect the device, it doesnt "detect" it, still shows "fail" and i never get the "start" option to engage again. So at that point i have to restart Odie but the same issue occurs...the timer keeps turning and the phone never reboots as its suppose to...I'll get this sooner or later damnit! ha

when i personally did it, i actually restart odin as well... i power cycled my phone (took battery out and brought it back up in download mode) - reconnected the usb and started odin up again...

clicked on the one package, browsed to the moment.ops file, and browsed to my .tar file and hit start and it worked pretty quickly.

Well, I took the plunge, and flashed my phone. The whole process took less than 15 minutes including downloads and my asking myself "are you sure you want to really do this?" It really was a very easy process thanks to the steps here and in other forums.

I only ran into a few bumps....

1.) Pressing vol down/end/camera button would not put the phone in download mode...until I unplugged the charger cable! (sometimes the obvious things are overlooked ! )

2.) The drivers from the custom package on Zefie's FTP site did not work. I downloaded PC studio 3 (free), and installed it. You do not need the application running. It simply installs the correct drivers - SIDE NOTE - my wife has a Blackberry that would not be recognized by the PC until I removed the assortment of other phone drivers that I had accumulated over the last few years (work phones, home phones, etc. etc.)

3.) Odin detected my phone with no problem. I pressed the start button after selecting the required files. Odin hung on setup connection. I waited 5 minutes, disconnected the USB cable, and pulled the battery from the phone. Just to be safe, I charged my battery to 100% ( yeah I know - 10 seconds after being unplugged it will say 50%). Most phones require that the battery be fully charged before attempting any sort of upgrade or flash operation. Doesnt hurt to be safe! I rebooted the phone into download mode, and ran Odin again. It took less than 30 seconds including the reboot. The actual software upgrade was only a few seconds.

The process was SO QUICK that I thought that maybe something didnt work. Even the Sprint startup animation played ( I flashed to ZE08.2 ) instead of the alternate one I read about. I had downloaded Connectbot in order to be able to delete tombstones files (created when certain processes suddenly die enexpectedly) that were taking up space and stupidly can only be deleted by root level access. Prioir to flashing, I could not delete these files. I tested Connectbot again, and found out I now had root access and could easily delete these files (and easily anything else if you are not careful!)

Time to remove Bejewled! (VEG!)

Alright, I got this to work, finally. I had to use my grandpa's 32 bit Vista. Stupid 64 bit 7.

But how do I go about deleting the unwanted apps, like bejeweled? If I need a program does anyone know if it would work with 7?

This is how you remove the apps. I did it on windows 7, but the 32 bit version... not sure about the 64 bit one...

It's actually pretty easy, I'm only 17 and I did it no problem. But I have yet to delete the other apps.


Also can someone give a better guide to the ABD thing? I kinda suck at command prompt.

The kernel replacement is super easy. Really no way to mess that one up other than unplugging the phone in the middle of the download or something. Not a big deal. The apps, not sure if it has made a difference because yesterday I ran the media test but you can mess that one up. Put the asterisk in there instead of the actual package name and wipe all your programs. Not cool. Pay attention and you should be fine I was worried about messing with mine too.

Today was an average day of use and I have 50% battery after 14 hours. Way better than before except last night I got a warning that I was at 15% battery and then about 2 minutes later got on a phone call where the phone died not but 4-5 minutes into the conversation. Wasn't expecting that one.

Very dumb question.. This roots my phone right? When/how can we do wifi tether? I have tried the wifi tether program, says it starts but does nothing!
