Root To root or not to root

I'm sure this question is probably answered elsewhere but I didn't see it. I actually have two questions.

1) What are the benefits of rooting?
2) What (if any) advantage is there in rooting as opposed to waiting for the upgrade to 2.2?

Thank you.

1. That's easy. It allows you to do a LOT more customizing and the ability to run different apps. Some apps need you to be rooted in order to work. Rooting in reality is simply changing your access rights to SU aka Root User (a Linux term), it's like becoming an Administrator (Windows term) on your computer. You can now do anything.

2.Completely unrelated. You'll want to root when (if, which we probably will) we get the upgrade because rooting isn't changing your phone in anyway it just changes what you can do with it.

Now if you are confusing rooting with getting Icarus 1.1. or waiting for the upgrade to 2.2 (which are comparable) then there are a couple threads about it but I'll answer it for you here.
a. We don't know for a fact that 2.2 is coming out. We are fairly certain of it because it's already came out in China, but until Huawei says here it is nothing is certain.
b.If you are wanting better performance and the ability to puts apps on your SD card instead of leaving them in your phone then switch to Icarus. You can always switch back to stock and upgrade to 2.2 when it comes out, but in the meantime you'll be enjoying better performance. I hope this helps. :D

One more question: will I lose what I have on the phone already when I root?

No you will not lose anything by rooting. Rooting your phone does not change your phone in any way shape or form. All it does is give you more access to the phones Operating System so you can install applications that need access to it, like Titanium Backup. Our phone is really a handheld computer that is designed to make calls and some other cool stuff too.

Sorry for the quick reply but I've got to go to the dentist to get a crown put on.
