Reviews/impressions about the Moto Xoom.

In my opinion the Xoom is way over priced, compared to its closest competitor, the iPad 2. I'm not saying that the iPad 2 is better but I figure it'll sell just as well as its predecessor and the Xoom will have to come down at least $100 to stay competitive. As for the wifi only Xoom, $600 seems like a reasonable MSRP for a 32GB Tablet, though the Sam's Club price of $530 seems a lot more reasonable.

i got mine on the $200 off deal and for $600 its well worth it i think. i have used it for most all my web browsing at home before work the last 2 days (10 hours or so) and have still got 47% battery. So that includes all the playing around and downloading and installing apps and such. After 3 days of having it the only thing i think could be better is how heavy it is. You will notice the extra few ozs after a little bit. i am going to use it for the next 5 days and try not to use my laptop at all. we will see :)

I caved in and bought a XOOM. I went for the 3G/4G model, but have not bought a data plan for it (as I can tether from my phone). The option for 4G is there, should I want it later though.

So far I am enjoying it. Although no flash, there is the Youtube app which works for what I need it for. As for apps, I am not concerned. There are only a handful of 'tablet optimized' apps, but the rest of the Android Market is still there and all of them work. The biggest drawback was price for me. I dropped a lot of cash for something to surf the internet, watch Youtube, and play games with. I will be getting more use out of it though, as I am dumping my laptop in favor of this. I will use an older desktop for my primary PC, should I need anything.

I for one would love to hear some of the discussions taking place within Google and Motorola based on the reviews being posted about the Xoom, both the good and the bad. I would speculate that these reviews are creating a sense of urgency to deliver the announced but unreleased features, at least I hope so.

Sadly, I don't think the same sense of urgency is being created within the halls at Verizon or Adobe, which is disheartening, but maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway I'm hoping this is positive for all of us early adopters.

Anything this new is found to be riddle with bugs. It also appears Motorola and Google rushed the Doom out to beat the ipad2. I'm pretty sure Google and Motorola are working on the issues on the Doom as we speak. Most of those are going under bug tests to make sure they work.

Being an early adoptor means you're gonna have to deal with all the bugs and not alot off apps. If you think Google or Motorola is not moving fast enough don't buy anything this new.

this is dead on correct. they hammered the galaxy tab for being a blown up phone but they sure didn't say the same thing about ipad which is exactly the same thing. nor did those sites hammer the ipad when it came out for its lack of tablet specific apps but the xoom sure got it.

There were 2000 iPad apps available the day before the iPad was released.

Maybe my tone did not come through in the post, I do have a XOOM and am looking forward to the upgrades. My intent with the post was not to question if they are working on the updates but rather how might Google and Motorola be reacting to the news. Also I would expect someone around here to have some "friends" on the inside and what the insiders are saying about the reviews and reactions to it.

I don't find honeycomb to be that buggy. iOS has its share of bugs crashes etc depending on the apps you run. I think in a week I've had one crash on Honeycomb.

As far as the Xoom being unfinished true but both features 4g and flash they are going to add are not even going to be available on ipad2. So the bloggers etc that keep hammering that probably work for Apple.

I find Honeycomb smooth and more elegant than iOS. So I just don't get the half baked statements of many of the blog sites. For the record I switched from ipad to Xoom and still have an iphone 4.

And how many of those were useful? How many do you use every day?

Numbers of apps means nothing. What they do and how useful they are is what matters.

Nailed with with this post. Apps make the tablet.

I sold my galaxy tab(loved it but no netflix) and bought a used ipad. After a quick jailbreak I'm golden. If the xoom had a handful of solid apps I would be in. Netflix alone makes a used ipad a better buy at this point but xoom will catch up quickly.

I will say that I really miss being able to easily add and remove files from the galaxy tab. Very different experience on the ipad.

I don't think so, not any different than other first releases. Remember the pad didn't have multitask and folders from the onset. Did they rush?

You are not reading me correct, I said - Screen, screen and screen. Xoom is behind even on ipad1 with screen to my eyes and fingers. Touch screen response on iPad is two head above even now before iPad2. All other items not as important as this. Waiting one week is nothing in compare with unknown waiting period on Xoom. I need Netflix today and I am talking on Skype lot, why should I wait and for how long? So, don't troll me out I am out anyway :)

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. The screen maybe higher res but it def looks cheap to the eye. It's weird how I can see the borders of each pixel. The text on the homescreen are a bit off too like looking at website at 90%.

Where are all these bugs coming from I have very few. Are people running apps that are not yet modified for honeycomb and considering there lack of performance, fc's bugs?

Agreed. I've seen fewer bugs with my Xoom and various apps than I've seen with my DroidX which had a restarting issue at one point and has an intermittent tendency to change ring-tones when it feels like it as well as the infamous "no sound on phone calls" a couple of times.

I've had no issues (bugs) with the Xoom at all. Oh wait...one thing Barcode Scanner doesn't want to work very well. It seems it won't lock in on the bar or QR codes .. particularly on-screen.
