iPhone converts!!!

I went from an iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4 and now onto the Inspire (2 days before it was released) and I don't regret it. I wrestled with whether I should switch from the iPhone 4 since they announced the phone in January but now that I have it, I would never consider going back to the iPhone. I love HTC and their UI and I will be an HTC Android user for life!

Well, I'm the odd duck in this discussion. Just returned my Inspire to AT&T after a week. I just couldn't deal with the horrible and I do mean horrible battery life. The display is gorgeous, it's fast and many of the apps are cool, but I found the iPhone still easier to use and I was constantly going back to it to read and reply to email. The iPhone keyboard is definitely better. There were lots of little things that I would have been willing to work with to make them work the way I wanted if it hadn't been for the battery. I was told to dim the display, turn off wifi and bluetooth, etc. Well, I don't have to do that with the iPhone, so why should I have to with another phone.

I thought about trying the Atrix, which has a huge battery, but got cold feet when I thought about the prospect of not being happy with it either and taking it back. Then, there's the iPhone5 looming on the horizon and not wanting to kick myself because I passed on something that could be very cool in only a few more months.

I know others love it, but it just didn't work for me. Someday, I bet I'll give Android another try.

To bad you didn't give it more time. I'm getting 15+ hours of battery life and the keyboard is great. To each his own I guess

I came to Android because I simply got tired of jailbreaking and wanted most of those features to come to the phone naturally. My first phone was the 3GS, bought it on launch day, learned to jailbreak few months later, then I bought the iPhone 4 on launch day and that was jailbroken the same day. It seemed like the iPhone had so much potential locked within that once you unleash it, you can never go back. But after adding so much stuff and editing so many things manually via computer or iFile. I just wanted something that was a simple "pick either or and drag and drop onto the screen". So I did my research and picked the Inspire. I originally wanted to wait till the Nexus S comes out for AT&T but I can always upgrade later once I hear the specs on that phone. Here's my analyses between the iPhone 4 and my current Inspire 4G.

Web Browsing: Tie (the stock Safari does it's thing, the stock browser for android isn't as good but there's Skyfire for free on the market and that makes up for it a lot.)

Texting: Android (it does have a lot more features added on to it, including saving new words to the dictionary as well as voice to text but I don't include that since I don't use it. Some might say iPhone is better but it takes use to typing on a new device with a bigger screen.)

Music: Tie (for my needs, it's as simple as can I make a playlist? that's all I need to know, in the end of the day, I JUST want to simply find my music and LISTEN. lol)

Notifications: Android (the widgets and notification options speak for itself.)

Camera/Video: Tie (although the Inspire's 8MP camera out does the iPhone's 5MP camera, the Inspire's HD video capture is nowhere near as crisp and clean as the iPhones' video.)

Market: Tie (some might say WTF? App Store has 200,000+ apps and such, yea and most of them are crap apps just to get a buck to the developers. I only downloaded few helpful apps and only a few games which are also already on the android market (for free btw). But sorry if I wanted to do heavy gaming, I'll go turn on my PS3. If I want a simple game that will entertain me through the waiting line, I'll open up Angry Birds. As well as other popular apps that work on both devices.)

Calling: Tie (both have good audio output via headphone jack, speaker, or regular.)

Battery: iPhone (yea everyone rants about the Inspire battery, but not me, well not anymore. I already found my replacement battery that has the same stock size but with 280 more mAh power (total of 1,600 mAh) to help me get through 3 full days without a charge. But I'll give it to iPhone for holding it's own for several days with heavy use.)

Hardware: To Each His Own.

I'll throw my two cents in this pot if it is still pertinent. I have come over from the dark side [iPhone 3G] and of course the differences between the two devices are night and day. I won't reprise what others have already posted in this thread, but one thing I would lament is the music player probably will not come close to matching the iPhone's iPod feature [for me.]

I suppose the entire universe of using iTunes vs. a more "manual" way of doing things on Android really cannot being compared, but still nothing I believe can match even my 4-5 year old iPod [video version I believe.] Having said all that - I am super stoked to be a part of this fantastic Android community and Rock on!

I for one am definitely happy. I'm actually bummed I didn't get the Incredible the last time I was eligible for an upgrade. But I'm very happy with it, I absolutely love this phone. It's more of a computer than the iphone ever was.

I suppose it depends on what type of person you are. If you're a geek and like to tinker with the phone and customize etc then the android is for you. If you want something simple that works well out of the box, then iphone is probably for you.

Coming from the iphone there's a few things I miss, like netflix, but it definitely makes up for it in other areas.

There IS a netflix app for your droid you do know that right..

I was a iPhone user since they came out. I one of the few who dared to unlock and JB it when it was first introduced, to stay on T-mobiles cheaper network. I've also used BBs' but always fell back on the iPhone. It's simple and small phone but lacks what we all want, to make it our own phone. There have been a few of you that have PMed me and asked how I feel about it. So lemme tell ya some, widgets, customization in ring tones and notification sounds. All without JBing or better known here a rooting the phone. Huge Display, clear and to the point with actual button to help with menu option and simply going "back" a page, in any screen your in. Never mind the battery I don't notice a difference, remember I've used this crapple phone since it came out, and AALLLLWAYS had my charge cord. And with a screen I can actually see I use this junk all the time, and the charger lol. My wife has the iPhone4 still and she has her likes about it, but also likes my inspire. Oh and the face camera on the iPhone is USELESS, none of our friends actually use this. Oh that's right cause they can only do it on wifi unless you JB, and not everyone is on that band wagon. I've only seen it in use in a home, with someone on yahoo, on a computer. useless...... The inspire come with a 8mp cam, vs. the 5mp on the crapple. Retina display isss clear but its still small. I joke and compare screen size with the iphone and old beepers lmao. Notice the brick design in the iPhone, yeah that's so when you destroy it because of the JB, it'll look more applicable (my side joke). Please feel free guys to ask me anything when comparing the crapple and the beloved new inspire.. RPDXBOXER Just make the jump man you WON'T regret it. and if you do man I got like 6 iPhones, i'll sell you one lol.

Pay day is coming on Friday, and I'm still trying to make a decision whether or not I should wait for the iPhone 5 or get an Inspire...I've literally gone back and forth for about a week now, and my girlfriend and myself are getting annoyed of myself going back and forth...for those who converted, are you truly happy you switched? And aren't you worried the iPhone 5 will blow this phone out of the water? For me I don't have the money to outright buy a phone so this will have to last me the two years I'll have it so that's not an option unfortunately...is it worth it to switch and pass on iPhone 5????

Beware -- battery life on this phone SUCKS.

The Inspire is my first android phone and it is everything I hoped for and more so far. The iphone is way too boring and bland, then again I came from the outdated 3G. Still, I've played with the iPhone 4 and it does nothing for me. Apple helped drive bigger and better competition and I thank them for that, but I feel most Apple products are overpriced and overhyped. The iPhone 5 HAS to be awesome to compete but the fact that Apple keeps everything locked down hinders them. Apple wouldn't dare make an iPhone with accessories like the Atrix since it would kill their laptop sales. In the non-Apple world though, it's welcomed with open arms (except Motorola and AT&T screwed that one up).

Beware -- battery life on this phone SUCKS.

A Lot of complaints about the Battery life. This is pretty easily taken care of.

1) lower the number of times you have things check in.
Meaning, Disable Auto update from Facebook,
only have gmail check when you open it for email directly.
reduce updates from the weather. I think the default is 1 hour. No ones weather changes that quickly, mine is currently set to 6. (But I Also live in an area where it'll rain for 5 days straight and there is very little temp variation.)
reduce the update from you twitter feed.
every app you have running in the background takes battery to maintain. Use the task Killer and kill the ones you don't use. (words with friends is notorious for this.)

2. ) Disable GPS, The GPS only does you any good when you're outside. Having it on constantly is a quick and really hard drain on your battery.

3) don't use a live wallpaper. Yes they are awesome, yes they are cool. but it's a tax on your battery.

I changed a lot of these settings to an hour to 3 hours. to 6 hours and my battery last pretty much all day, and that's with the heavy texting I do.

And if nothing else, you can buy a bigger battery and replace the one in the Inspire. Good luck doing that with anything Crapple puts out.

I'm at the end of my trial with the Inspire. I'm taking it back tomorrow because:

1. Battery life
2. Horrible audio

The battery issues are well documented, but as a music geek, I am equally disappointed in the playback quality and poor sound. The audio out line doesn't put out much of a signal. When I plug my wife's iPhone into a line out, it sounds fine. When I plug in my Inspire, I have to crank the volume on the Inspire and increase the volume on the target system.

I love the Inspire, but the end of the day, I need a phone that I can count on to be:

1. Charged in the morning without an app to micro manage what features are on or off. If you slip up and leave GPS enabled while you sleep, you won't have an available phone in the morning unless you can plug in.

2. A decent music player. Music sounds like dogsh!t on the Inspire.

The inspire seems sluggish, not as smooth as the iphone 4 when scrolling between pages. I'm not sure this will get better as i root the phone and rom it, i certainly hope so. Plus the battery life is horrible, again hopefully rooting and roming it will help. Still new to the phone, still trying to decide if i like it.
