First I would like to mention I find it ironic that iPhone fan boys get mad that with every new phone that comes out comes with the claim that it will be an "iPhone killer" when it is them that keeps bringing it up.

1. This is a biased point. The nexus one along with all other Android phones do other thing exceptionally well other then connecting to the "Google "cloud" thing"

2. Hardly a viable reason not to like the phone.

3. This point seems to only be brought up by the fan boy's. I have yet to hear Google or Motorola complain in fact Motorola was on stage at the kick off of the Nexus One. Perhaps there is more going on behind closed doors than we we know. If Android succeeds Google and Motorola win.

4. "The Nexus One will give handset makers even more incentive to take open source Android" I agree!

5. It is about choice and T-mobile is only the first, with more to come.

6. He makes some good points but we do not need another closed smartphone ecosystem. There are many ways be successful at this game and I hope to see the Android platform flourish.

None of this is spam. All here know the bad points of older mobile systems, but we are all learning about the N1. Since the good salient points about it have already been shown earlier, somebody needs to get real and point out the not so great stuff.

Does the Android App ecosystem need work? Yes
Is Google years ahead of where Apple was when they started? Yes
Will it take Android at least another year to catch the iPhone software? Yes

Also, this idea that Google is marginalizing it's partners is bogus. They have said Google will sell multiple manufacturer's hardware.

And the second point I agree with is T-mobile? They are 4th in the carier race. They had the G1 for over a year and Android didn't
become a house whole name till it hit Verizon. Why would you not put it on that network first. Well i hope Google knows what they are doing.

I really don't get the "Google should not be completing with its partners" argument against the Nexus 1. Google is paying HTC to manufacture a phone which is then being sold with contracts for multiple carriers. How is this competing? Just because it's Google selling the phone rather than a carrier directly does not mean that the OEM or carrier is not making money off it.

im a noob here and i dont know much about android and its Os very much but i do like to pay attention to whats going on around me. im a bit of a conspiracy theorist, so heres what i am thinking.

1. google is a large and very influential player in the software bizz. they have their hand in all kinds of stuff and make money in ways most of us cant even understand or pretend to know about. so their plan to release it to Tmoble was very calculated and part of their plan. hint. "test market"
2. wimax and LTE is on the horizon, 4G speeds. this is also great for the consumer, faster, better, all good stuff.
3. google decides to sell hardware at retail prices on the online store eliminating contracts all together.. also a very calculated move on their part.
4. android is open source. allowing for many great things, especially FREE apps. letting the android community and customer base to throw ideas back and forth and creat new apps for the android OS. also very calculated move on googles part. they dont have to do it for us and try to understand what we want. they let us do it for ourselves because we know what we want. excellent stratagy if you ask me.
5. google voice aka"voip". by invitation only, you dont use your minutes but you use google voip to make calls. excellent idea. unlimited data only plans are going to explode in staggering numbers.


so if you take 1+2+3+4+5= google is planning way ahead. for when you no longer have to pay for minutes and are not tied to any contracts. you buy the phone outright and go with who ever you want. as a data only plan user, google voice will be available and with unlimited data, you get unlimited voip, text pics flix and web. plus on wimax and LTE. or whatever 4g service provider you want. cant go wrong with that. how many google phones will be sold then. looks like google has been making calculated planned moves since the release of the G1. i wonder how long before apple realizes this and try to play catchup. everyone seems to think the nexus 1 is just another android phone. its not. nexus is just the tip of a very very very large iceberg, and i want to be on the iceberg when it hits.

you can keep your iphone.

iTunes is TERRIBLE, really, really terrible (I own an iPod, and have done for a long time, I refuse to use that piece of crap).

lets give credit where credit is due. iTunes and how it interacts with iPhones/iPods/music store is nowhere near terrible. Its easy to use and straightforward. If google wants to make android relevant - it NEEDs that level of ease of use.

I don't want to sound like a Google fanboy, but its hard not to when being faced with silly "issues" like those stated above.

the issues are all valid. they are things I've heard normal people ( ie people who don't want to know how to mount a usb drive ) say when comparing an Android phone vs the iPhone.

Android needs work. We as users of it need to keep the pressure on google. To that end, the last thing we need is its users burying their heads in the sand.

Well, I'm only going to address the T-Mobile issue. First off, the only reason AT&T has as many subscribers as they do is because of the iPhone NOT because their service is so great. As for the G1, it was never really marketed all that well which kind of explains that but look how well T-Mo is marketing the MyTouch and the CLIQ. At any rate, I have no problems with my T-Mo service and most anyone will tell you that it really depends on where you live as to who is the best but whenever there is a complaint, it's usually an AT&T customer (both signal and customer service). Their customers put up with them because they love their iPhones so much. What do you think would happen to AT&T if iPhone left to go to Verizon? Hmmm. The Android OS is still in its infancy and I expect it will only continue to grow and get better.
