New Every Two? Can someone clarify something?

Okay,
So we went to Verizon and we were upgrading my phone (which is an added line, not the primary).
Both phones were 2 years old, and we were going to use the new every 2 discount to upgrade my phone.

The sales rep said we can't use the new every two discount on the added line, but we do get the discount pricing on the phone (so $99 for a Droid Eris after the mail-in rebate). Sadly they didn't offer any deviousness of switching which one was primary or anything...
but I was fine with that...

...until...
One of my friends is on the same family plan we're on. They upgraded four phones all for free (two enV Touches and two enV 3s). This wasn't with a buy one get someodd free deal. One was up in July, then August, then November, and then December.

This is my 3rd phone on Verizon (wow... 6 years), and I've always been told the New Every Two discount is only for the primary line while additional lines get the two-year contract discount price.

I'm kindof confused...

I went to the verizon FAQ, and it said that only the primary line qualifies, but unlike the sales rep we got, it says you can use the discount on another line...

So any help or advice? Should I call Verizon and see if I can get the discount applied since the sales rep said we couldn't? (It says the primary line has $100 off any phone...) (we'll probably just get a new phone for the primary line if we can't)...

I just want someone to explain why some people I talk to get the new every 2 discount on phones that are additional lines... I talked to some of my other friends, and they too get the additional discount on non-primary lines... Maybe I just get the wrong sales rep...

First off, NE2 gets you the two-year pricing once your contract is up. The NE2 discount is for the primary line only (that is, it's not $50 per line). That being said, you can divide up that $50 across all the lines if you want. If your phone is $20 on 2 year contract, you can apply the remaining $30 elsewhere. I didn't see where you stated your friend got a credit on each line. Maybe he hit a sale and had a $100 credit that covered everyone? I know depending on your monthly rate, you either got a $100 or $50 credit years ago but that's been dropped to $50 and $30. Not sure when that change took place. I have $50 but I'm still grandfathered on the original NE2 program (I'm below the cutoff for $100) because I signed up 4 years ago and have had my NE2 floating around for almost 2 years.

I will say this. I decided to upgrade the wife's phone two October's ago as I was not interested in anything Verizon had to offer. They let me transfer my NE2 credit to her line. For some reason, ~5 months later I started getting mailers tell me I had a $50 NE2 credit waiting to be used and it's been that way ever since. They either decided to give me an additional $50 or their system got screwed up.

The enV Touch when they first got it was $100, so that would have been all of it. But they got 2 enV Touches when it was still $100 each. The enV 3 is $29 now. I don't think they could divide it up for everyone, and they said they got all the phones for free at different times.

Maybe it rolls/rolled over for some people?

Maybe my friends got lucky and that's what happened to them. I do know Verizon's system has been glitchy. We were double charged for texts one month, called it in, and they waived the texting that month.

this is false info the credit cannot be dispursed between lines if there is a credit left over

Call Verizon, Explain the cituation to them, and if you get a good rep they may bend the rules for you. I've done it in the past. Tried to get a new Palm for free. Rep, 2 of them said no they can't ended up with tech support on another issue and he sent me a new palm free. My phone was not defective I just talked to him about the citation. I think it depends on the person on the other end. Can't hurt to try on the phone with customer service. They also have a customer retention department they didn't help me either. This time I just paid the price and didn't try anything special.

I always ALWAYS get a rep on the phone to talk to ...I never ever every buy anything int he store. I go to the store to look at phones and occasionally pay my bill but never do business there....well i did get my eris there but I got the same discounts as I would have on line...but I always got my data transfered for free when they used to charge for it ect at the store.....I have been with them 10 years now and like the call quality and the service has always been the best but not the people at the store they have been total choads....sorry cant tell you much about secondary lines i only have one.
