Where is Gingerbread?

Upvote 0
What build are you on now?

2.2.1

Where did you buy it from? If somewhere like Vodafone, the download may not work and you'll need to do some other steps if you want gingerbread now, rather than wait.

Yep, Vodafone.
So what 'other steps' do I need to do to install Gingerbread on my (unrooted) Nexus One?

And, wherever I got my Nexus One, Google still announced, in December, that Gingerbread would be pushed to Nexus phones "in the coming weeks". That IS 10 weeks ago! And it did not happen (while they did release the Nexus S!).

You bought your phone from a carrier. They dictate when it's pushed, not Google.

You need to follow the steps listed here I believe. I've not tried it, I bought my phone direct from Google. I'm sure others who have done it will be along soon.

I.o.w. installing Gingerbread on a Vodafone sold Nexus One according to those 'steps' is to effectively root it. Voiding warranty.
No thanks from this muppet!

And the bottom line is that Google did not push Gingerbread to Nexus One phones as they announced (without restrictions) in December, as I suspected.

A couple of quick tips for you Howdie!

1. It helps if you post that you are using an operator branded handset as this can make a lot of difference to replies.

2. It also helps if you make it known whether you are rooted or not, or indeed unwilling to root, as again this can affect the advice given.

An easy way to do this is to use your User CP to modify your Profile's, Current Device details so that other forum members can always see what handset, firmware, carrier, rooting state, you have.

The bottom line, from the information that you have now given, is that you are at the mercy of Vodafone as to when (or if) you get the Gingerbread release I'm afraid as the ball is now in their court.

You should receive a message from Vodafone in the "coming weeks/months" to let you know when the update is ready for downloading OTA (Over The Air).
