Root How to unroot and remove superuser?

I'm pretty sure I'm getting some odball hardware failure, and need to replace my phone. I've read that verizon wil not honor the warranty for replacement if the phone has been rooted, so how do I unroot and also remove superuser?

(I used z4root to originally root)

I can unroot with z4root, but that does not remove superuser from the app list.

I didn't see a forum topic on this anywhere.

You can use this maderstcok - OTA 2.3.340 update.zip
It will remove everything and return your phone to like it was out of the box. If you've already unrooted your phone you will need to reroot and have bootstrap to use this.

The last time I had to un-root with Z4 and it didn't remove the Superuser app, I was able to restart the phone and uninstall Superuser through the app manager, just like any other app. I never had that option while rooted.

Sorry I was assuming you already had bootstrap. What Steven58 suggested would be your best option if Riverman's suggestion doesn't work for you.

Cool.. riverman's suggestion did not work. maderstock's is the sbf, right? if I recall, you rename that as update.zip, and drop that onto the root sd card. I haven't sbf'd since froyo's leak, so I'll have to hunt down updating via sbf.

Plan is to go completely stock, and see if my issues still exist. if not, then stick with my hardware.

Issues I'm seeing (which others have reported as well):

touchscreen freeze on wake (sleep and rewake resolves it, but of course you miss calls)
camera button not working on occasion (reboot resolves that, or using a home shortcut)

The touchscreen freeze (and sometimes sporadic use) is the biggest issue.. I've had FAR too many missed calls, and general phone use is a pita when you have to slep and wake it several times to get it working properly.

I 've never themed, or used alt roms either.. the most advanced thing I've done was z4 rooted, and used ad blocker. I'm using Launcher pro plus, beautiful widgets, folder organiser, and desktop vizualizer.. other than those, its pretty much standard apps like ebook readers, games n such.

The maderstcok zip is different than the sbf ....in essence they do the same thing ....you just apply it a different way .....sbf is applied by hooking your x up to your computer via usb and using your computer to run the sbf file to your x .....maderstcok zip is done through bootstrap in clockwork recovery without the need for a computer ....there is no need to rename the maderstcok zip just download and install.....the maderstcok zip is more or less used for users who are not bricked and can still access their devices but want to upgrade or go back to stock and / or start over clean .....you can also use the sbf in the same manner but is generally used by people who are bricked and can't gain access to their device

- su (Now you should see a # symbol. This is the SU (Superuser) command prompt)

- rm /system/bin/su
- rm /system/bin/busybox
- mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system

I have't used the terminal emulator since last august. It sounds though that all i really need is the sbf, since my phone isn't bricked. I could have swore that using the sbf was just a reboot/update thing. I remember it being very easy.

I can't really think of any app that might affect touch screen response at all. I suppose I could remove launcher pad pro, and go back to stock for a week, to see if mybay I have a corrupt install of it possibly. Touch screen response is one of those "big deal" things that can make a phone useless. Sometimes it works perfectly, other times it acts up for several sleep and reawakenings. My wife's DX doe snot appear to have the same issue though.

I didnt read the whole thread.. i just saw you asked how to remove SU..

If you are having those kinds of problems.. i do suggest doing a full SBF Flash.. You can find details of that as well as all files needed right here. Dont forgot you can also find them right Here #4

If you need any other help dont be afraid to ask!!

Hopefully a Full SBF will help, however it might be a hardware problem

yeah I'm really suspecting a hardware isue, but I'd rathe rwork it out myself first, before caving and trusting verizon. They already have a report on our acount, and can have a replacement here in 3 days, but if its just a stupid application gone bad, I'd rather resolve that myself. I like to know why things act up, so I can avoid them in the future.

I'd imagine most likely, BUT personally I'd NEVER take advice for one phpne and apply it to another phone. Thats just asking for a bricked device.

FWIW, I had to wipe data and cache, use rsdlite, and flash back to stock. And amusingly enough, a week later I updated to DX gingerbread, and looks like today I'll be doing everything AGAIN for deodexed rooted gingerbread on the DX.

I swaer, I've spent more time the past week updating the phone and rearranging things than actuall using it for anything else.

this is VERY device specific...if you're on the Atrix i wouldn't attempt ANY of the things we talk about in this forum...the Atrix will have all its own methods..
