Shutter Button on Galaxy S II

Hi all, I own a Samsung Omnia HD (i8910)

No it's not an Android Phone, but it's still an impressive machine, let down by the S60 OS.

I'm holding out for the Galaxy S II, but I noticed that just like it's predecessor, it also lacks a physical button for photo shooting.

I've played with a friend's Galaxy S and gotten the feel of touching the screen to take a picture, but I must say that it is sometimes difficult to keep the phone steady while taping the screen. It would be more user friendly to include a shutter button for taking photos and video, since it will be an 8.0 Mega pixel camera.

Here's an addition to the Galaxy S II Wishlist:

* Shutter Button for Photo and Video on the right side of the phone.

Not only does the universe, in which a company like Samsung would give a damn about a thread in some userforum, but you couldn't even leave your prejudices about another phone out of the matter.

Also on-topic: Sure a Camera shutter button would be nice, but to be honest, if your style of shooting relies on a physical button so much, you should get an actual camera. The pictures will be way better also.

It would be a nice feature but if you want the button, go with a Nokia N8 thats has dedicated camera buttons and 12MP camera.

The iPhone just got named the best mobile phone at MWC in an android dominated environment.

And many people complain about the shake and blur when you take a picture with a shutter button on such a light device. I've never had any issues with the touchscreen shutter on the galaxy s, and it never shakes for me. Just a slight tap versus a jaunting push downward on a physical key. This has been true for every camera phone I've used, especially those with stiff shutter buttons. Regular cameras are thick and heavy enough with much larger round shutter buttons that are easy to press, so they avoid the shake.

And like the other poster said, leave your ill-got prejudices at the door.

I think the race on MP number on phone camera's sensor is pointless. Today's small digital cams have 1/2.3" sensor with pixels like 12~16MP and they mostly suck at low light indoor pictures even with flash. And phone cameras are even worse on dim indoor pictures due to smaller sensor and lens. There won't be much gain in image quality beyond 5MP in phone cameras.

Maybe someday phone camera will catch up to entry level camera, but it's not there yet in my eye. I don't normally use phone camera except for some urgent situations when I don't have camera.

This is Android. A modded camera app is all you need.

The SGS does not have a dedicated camera button but it does have an excellent camera backed up with equally very good software.
You only have to look at it's ultra low f2.3 stop lens, ideal for low light photography.

Samsung are now making very good digital cameras and we are starting to see this filter in to their phones.

If this SGS2 with a larger 8MP can produce shots and video above what we see on the SGS then I for one do not care if there is no hardware camera button.

The N8 does have an amazing camera and Nokia isn't new to good optics. However, the N8 isn't the first to have xenon flash (high-end phones have had it for a while) and flash has limited use. My Vibrant was very good in the dark without a flash and my old Nokia phones with xenon flash didn't benefit that much from it so it doesn't matter to me whether there is a flash or not, or what kind of flash.

Might have gotten a little too excited...

I take a lot of pics with my phone, and, altho I own a decent camera, it's almost always in a drawer at home. Guess I can get used to tapping the screen on the SGS2.

I just flashed a new ROM on my Captivate (Twingerbread 3.3) and it subs in the power button for the camera. Simple, excellent solution that doesn't create another physical button on the case.
