Ok, so I just rooted my X using the steps listed on roooler's site, and now I'm making a nandroid backup, it finished processing, but it says:

No sd-ext found. Skipping backup od sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Error while generating md5 sum!

This is my first time doing anything like this, and I'm wondering if this normal or what? Thanks for any help.

The no sd.ext found is normal, and you will have no problems with restoring.
You may want to rename the file to make things less confusing if you make several backups. I make lots of backups before playing around with my system files with an app called ningamorph. I have learned alot by playing and have always been able fix things when my playing went bad.
I hope this helps!

just out of curiosity, are you using rom manager to make the backup in clockwork mod? or are you rebooting into clockwork recovery to make the backup?

When naming your backups, don't use spaces and parentheses () symbols. You may use symbols like _ periods, and - to separate characters.

yeah that was what I was getting at by asking if he was using rom manager. if he wasnt using rom manager then we know the spaces arent the problem, if he is using it then I can see how it COULD be the problem

I used Bootstrap Recovery then rebooted into ClockWork. I hadn't even gotten to renaming yet, so I know thats not an issue. And if like wb2ibo says and the no sd.ext is normal, is the "Generating md5 sum... Error while generating md5 sum!" part normal as well? It just had me a little worried, I hate seeing the word ERROR when I'm doing something for the first time.

well I don't know what the problem was, but I re-did it tonight before attempting to push a bootanimation using terminal emulator, and it didn't throw a md5 sum error, so all is well. And my new bootanimation is awesome lol.

Thanks everyone. Its nice to see a forum where n00bs aren't beaten up on for, well, being a n00b.

If it tries freaking out on you again, format your card and make one. Hopefully it doesn't, but that should fix it.
