The other day I downloaded winamp on my pc as I didn't have a player I liked. Then I saw it was available for Android as well. I downloaded it to my phone, then I plugged my ASSend to the pc while the player was open. I found I could transfer files from my Itunes to winamp and then to my phone. I have a love/hate relationship with Itunes and have been wanting to have more flexibility with it. Winamp works great on my phone!! Too bad I paid for poweramp, as winamp is FREE!!

I've been using Winamp on my PC for years. There's alot you can do with it. You can even use it to transfer music from your PC to an iPod without using Itunes. Oh, and unlike WMP, Winamp can play FLAC files.

using meridian now so i don't have to keep selecting a new vid when one ends. i have maybe 200 music vids that i let ride with my screen off at work.

i did some hurricane clean up out there after wilma. laughed my ass off passing Avenue Q too.

The Sam Houston isn't nearly as bad as Hwy 45 going through Houston at rush hour. Unless of course, you got caught up in one of the never ending construction projects.

Wilma wasn't the one that did us in. Hurricane Ike is the one that really tore us up. I think Wilma went to Florida. As far as Ike goes, things are returning back to normal, but some things will also just never be the same. I did not evacuate for Hurricane Ike. I stayed for it, and faired pretty well compared to everything around me.

As soon as there was daylight, I was out with a camera documenting the damage. I self-published a book through Blurb of all of the destruction. Here's a low-res version of the book, but you can see all of the pics and every page if you really want to see how bad Ike got us. It covers most of the cities within this area, and is set up so that the destruction gets worse, the deeper you get into the book. Because of that, places like Galveston and Bolivar are some of the last chapters.

may have been ike. we went from miami up (mostly) i-10 all the way out to galveston doing clean up and taking trees off houses. also went to Louisiana for katrina and cali after some nastiness.
that was a crazy trip. made bank though.
part of my job is a yearly road trip during what we call "disaster season" between august and november and cleaning up after hurricanes, tornadoes and typhoons (i think thats the right word). got lost once in atlanta Ga. that was fun.

the sam houston had me on a loop in rush hour that cost me like eight bucks in tolls. "tollway" aint no joke.
as for whataburger, miami is owned by McD's and BK so the tater bread buns (or whatever that yellow bread is) and real jalapanos (pronounced with a "j", lol) made my day.

Well, I just downloaded Winamp to give it a try and, you know what, it is missing a key feature: the ability to load your music by folder rather than having to use a library. Also, I didn't see an equalizer. So, as much as it pains me to be disagreeable, screw Winamp and Poweramp rules (notice words spelled correctly too).

I use Winamp on my computer just for the simple fact that it makes my tiny laptop speakers sound less whiny. X.x I love the preset equalizer. Does it have that option on the Android version of Winamp too? I need to go look at that.

My brother used to work for Whataburger. I really, really, REALLY do not miss that restaurant. At all.

Winamp on Android is limited to just a few formats. It cannot do lossless formats. The regular PC version can but not the Android app.

PowerAmp Pro is the only Android app that I know of that can do lossless formats such as FLAC and APE and ALAC (Apple Lossless).

It is for this reason that I use PowerAmp on my Android. Almost all my music is in FLAC format with some in ALAC format. This means that PowerAmp is the ONLY option for me.

I'm not thrilled it cost me $4.99 USD but it works and it works well and it does what *I* need which also happens to be something that NO other music player can do.

I love my PowerAmp

Hmmmm....so does this mean that Poweramp pro can load itunes? I didn't try it on pro, but I did try with the free version. I'll look into it when I have more time.

I see your point. I never used iTunes. I have Windows Media Player and don't need to sync with any device and do NOT want to be limited by one of Apple's products. I don't need to use any software to get music onto my Ascend; I just copy the folders/files using Windows Explorer directly to the SD card in the phone.

PowerAmp cannot sync with iTunes directly BUT if your iTunes only has 'standard formats' like MP3 and AAC then you can have Windows Media Player look at your iTunes folder and then use it to sync to your Android phone. This works regardless of what music / media player you use on your Android.

Perhaps even better yet ... there are two programs designed for syncing iTunes to Android and again they work regardless of what Music player app you are using on the Android. One is called Easy Phone Tunes (for iTunes) and it is free but limited. You really need to pay for the 'upgrade' to get full (and decent) functionality out of it. I did so and I'm happy with it. The other program is called iSyncr for PC there is also a Mac version) but alas this is also a paid program without any free 'demo' version. So yes neither is really free but they do allow syncing directly from iTunes with no middle man (like Windows Media Player) in the way.

Then there is always the doubleTwist Player which is free and allows syncing of iTunes BUT from what I understand it can be a bit cumbersome to use and somewhat limited. I honestly think the aforementioned Easy Phone Tunes is a better (and more direct) approach, even if it did cost me roughly $3.00 US Dollars.

Last but not least the syncing that you do now with Winamp (PC) to Winamp (Android) can still be done yet please note that once the music is on your Android you can then use any Android music/media player app to play that music. You don't have to use the Winamp app.

Oh and of course you can always just drag and drop music files to the Ascend. That's what I do with all my FLAC files. These days I'm basically just using iTunes for podcasts.

The only _pple devices I have are 2 old Ipods. So I've had Itunes for a while. I normally do just drag and drop my music into my phone card, but to get the Itunes out you have to use something other than poweramp. Funny, I didn't think to play the itunes music on poweramp. I didn't think of using WMP to do a transfer, I've never been that thrilled with it. I actually have Easy phone in my apps, but haven't tried it. I tried Double Twist, but as you put it, I didn't get it. Probably could've spent more time with it but I didn't. I don't think I have any FLAC files, as I don't really know what they or lossless files are. There's some technology that I just don't know much about. Not sure if I need to. Lol, I'm old enough to remember music only on an LP, so I'm pretty easy to please. As for paying for apps, I have no problem with it. Hell, I even paid for Keypurr and am not using it!

I've been playing around with itunes and syncing all day and here is what I've discovered.

1.) doubleTwist Player = junk and I say this because it does a lot of things WRONG and doesn't support very many formats. I would avoid for everything other than perhaps podcasts. It seems as though it might actually do podcasts well (from what I could see in my limited testing). However I have one podcast that I have to subscribe to (i.e., pay for) and in iTunes I have to enter a username and password for it to download these podcasts. The podcasts are DRM free though. Anyway it seems only iTunes has this functionality. At least doubleTwist Player does not. And since iTunes is free I'm just going to use it for ALL my podcasts since it seems I have to use it for at least the one I mentioned (that requires username/password info).

2.) I found a free program called iTunes Agent which reminds me a lot of how the aformentioned Easy Phone Tunes (see my earlier post) works. I played with both and iTunes Agent is very kewl (especially for being free) but it has one major drawback. You can only sync ONE playlist. So basically you have to dump everything you want to sync into that one playlist. Now Easy Phone Tunes (the free version) is the same and doesn't even sync over the artwork (which iTunes Agent does do) but if you pay for Easy Phone Tunes then it does do the artwork and allows you to select multiple playlists. If you don't mind paying the very low fee for Easy Phone Tunes then it is the better of the two.

3.) So in the end I'm using Easy Phone Tunes (paid version) to sync podcasts from iTunes and since almost all my music (other than podcasts) are in FLAC format I'm just manually coping that over. However I do use a prgram called Media Center (by J. River) that has syncing abilities so I might give that a try for my music (it handles podcasts as well but alas not username/password protected podcasts like the one I mentioned before.) Please note that J. River's Media Center is a great program but it is not free.

I have the Icarus mod on my Huawei Ascend. I downloaded a music downloading program called Mp3 Music Download. I went to transfer some music files from my computer to my phone and so I put them in the same folder as the songs i had downloaded with the above program. My phone wont recognize the music I added?!?! I am just trying to use the default music player. What am i doing wrong?? should i be putting them in a different folder? none of the others sound appropriate....
