Apple Guy Loves His Droid

I'm one of those Apple converts who wonders why he ever spent so many years in PC misery since going to a Macbook last December. In my not-so-humble opinion, nothing comes close to a Mac. Nothing. To me, a Mac does everything much better.

That said, one would think I would have been on the iPhone bandwagon years ago. Since I have a wireless career background, I knew that going to AT&T would be a mistake, and I was willing to sacrifice getting an iPhone because I was not willing to give up my excellent and near-perfect Verizon service.

I'm glad I waited. My Droid is everything I could ever want in a phone. It is, in effect, a handheld computer in every respect. What matters most to me is the amount of customization I can do, and the multi-tasking. I even use the physical keyboard for applications such as Excel, where the built-in mouse moves my cursor with more precision than is possible with on-screen keystrokes.

So, while I love my Mac and my iPod Touch, my Droid has become my lifeline and something I cannot live without.

I love the combo of owning the Droid and the iPod Touch. I have the Droid for great phone functionality, some very cool apps, and reliable service. I have the iPod Touch for all of the games and other fun apps that draw users to the iPhone.

I have yet to venture into the world of Mac though....someday maybe....

I have a MBP, I have had VZW for 12 years. I also HAD to get an iphone. I paid for both VZW and ATT accounts cause the iphone was just cool. HTC winmo phones are the best verizon had to offer before the android phones. Winmo sorta sucks at this point. In the end, I canceled my iphone (currently for sale) and I am running with my droid full on. but I LOVE my MBP. So the questions I have are these.

Why do those of you with the droid have a touch? Dont ge me wrong, the touch is cool, but what can it do that a droid cant? I debating on keeping my iphone, for the apps, games etc, but really it (and the touch) are really only fully functional if you have wifi available. with the droid, all the media is available, movies, music, etc. AND you have the 3G network to support it. I love my iphone (touch) but does the droid pretty much replace ALL of it?

why do mac users have such a hard time not being DEDICATED to apple? just cause I love my MBP does that mean I HAVE to use an iphone/touch? Why isn't flexibility allowed? Use what works for your life is my motto. I just want as few as possible devices :)

btw, make no mistake.... google IS skynet....

I definitely do not use my iPod Touch as much now as I used to. I used to have a blackberry and used the Touch for the big screen for videos and better browser. Now that I have the Droid I don't use the touch for that....

But the Droid can't yet really compare with iPhone/iPod Touch when it comes to games. I have wifi at home and work, I can't resist playing Bejeweled Blitz with Facebook connect in Bejeweled 2 on the Touch during my breaks. There are lots of other fun little games like Doodle Jump, Peggle, SMB2, Crash Kart, Soosiz, Collapse Chaos etc that just have nice graphics, smooth gameplay, and just appeal to me more than most currently released Android games.

I believe the good games are coming though....in time...

I haven't used my ipod touch since I got my Droid on launch day. Thanks to this thread I remembered to just now plug it into the charger. I'm a pc guy but the wife's macbook is pretty nice. I have wifi so it is convenient to sit in my favorite chair in front of the tv, connect my droid to the macbook and download music, etc.

I had no problem ditching the itouch for the Droid. :D

i sold my itouch to my brother about a year ago when i got my blackberry. the radio in my car (vw gti) has a 6 disc mp3 cd player so i just throw shit on cds as mp3 since i dont really have a lot of music.

when i got my droid i was soo happy and copied all my music onto the sd card and i do plan on using it as an itouch replacement.

i bought a macbook pro tuesday and im absolutely loving this thing. for the price i got it, she was almost a steal. gotta love working at a major retailer

Don't even get me started on mac vs pc war. Using both at work the mac had far more problems and incompatibility issues... and macs can't touch windows gaming. Not that windows is perfect, but my pcs don't fail. so you keep your overpriced box. And as for macs do graphics better than pc that is a complete myth. I ran filter tests on rather large files with photoshop cs2 with a g4 vs pc. The g4 actually had slightly better hardware.. yet the pc beat it by several minutes.

I wiped my itouch and gave it to the husband within two days of getting my droid. The phone works great as a pmp and I'm so happy to be free from iTunes (syncing is convenient but insanely restrictive DRM and the fact that you can't do simple drag-and-drop library organization without import/export/sync and marrying one device to a specific library....meh.)

Ironically, if the last hardware refresh of the ipod touch line hadn't been so spectacularly disappointing, I probably would have bought the new ipod and replaced my dumbphone instead of getting the droid. Thanks Apple!

I have to support iPhones at work. So the mail settings and whatnot are close enough between my touch and the phone for me to be able to troubleshoot settings. It also plays music much better to the Droid, for now. I'm sure they'll update the music player app. They sound the same to me, I've worked around jet engines too long to be able to tell the sound difference, I just like the touch's music player better. It also has much better games, another thing I'm sure will get better as time goes along. Android has really started to take off in the last four or five months. Before that I had only seen one G1 in real life. Give it another six months and the games will be on par with each other.

Mac guy here too. When the iPhone launched I was wanting to jump on the bandwagon with everyone else. I might have too but at the time I was going through my own personal recession. After I was able to get back on top of my finances I was transformed into a Scrooge. I would not spend any extra money on anything frivolous like the iPhone when a regular phone did what I needed. Later on I decided to splurge and got a iPod Touch and loved it. It went everywhere with me. But I always kept my own chart on my desktop with a breakdown of the monthly fees and the total damage to a bank account after an iPhone 2 year contract was up. If I ever felt the need to get an iPhone I would just look at that chart and be cured.

I followed Android development closely and was happy to see something I thought was good (in my opinion) only to push the iPhone further and make it better. After a while I started reading all the complaints about AT&T and the App Store's issues with developers. I knew then I would not be getting an iPhone unless it was on another network and the App Store loosened up a bit.

Then the Droid came out.

Frak the cost, love the network, I was ready. I was able to justify it as I had been promoted (not full time yet, hopefully soon) as part of a 3 person IT dept. Turns out one of the other guys in IT has the Droid (did not know he had gotten it till after I had bought mine) Took the plunge and am extremely pleased with my investment. Looking forward to using it for the next two years and then seeing what Moto has out then.

had a touch and bb before the droid. haven't touched the touch since getting the droid. With more adnroid phones on more carriers coming this year, the SW devs will now have enough sockets to want to write programs for. I think we will see the number of android apps 2x or 3x within 12 months.

The big changer is if vzw gets the iphone in the summer as rumored. The pent up demand for iphones from vzw users is just huge if you read the vzw forums....

True, but i think google is striking at JUST the right time to take advantage of that pent up demand. Lets face it, apple fanboys are always going to be apple fanboys, but for those people with some sense, the andriod phones are definately going to entice those iphone wanters that don't want to put up with ATTs gawdawful network.

I know I was desperately wanting an iphone before the droid hype started ramping up, and now that I have my droid I couldn't care less about the fruit.

The only thing that iphone does better is apps and music right now. And since i HATE HATE HATE itunes with a passion...no thanks. And as others have said it won't take long for the android app developement to ramp up given the hype and added freedom of the platform.

Google is using apple's own demand against them, and i think it's wonderful.
