K9 mail, new mail icon but no new mail.

I have the samsung captivate. When I first got the K9 mail it worked fine. But it seems that after an update a few weeks ago my new mail icon seems to be stuck. I do get my notification and when I check the mail, it does show new mail the first time. But after I check it and clear it from my mail, it still shows that I have 2 new message or so. The number keeps growing. Any way to clear this?

I've seen that issue as well... I think it popped up in version 3107 or 3108 maybe. I see 3109 just came out... I'm going to install it and see how it looks..

I also have this problem on an HTC desire. Have had the same problem on versions 3.602, 3.604 and 3.706.

I realise that this may be stating the obvious but have you made sure that you have disabled notifications on the stock Android, built-in, email app?

Sorry, I misread the original post. My problem is that the K-9 mail icon does not change when I get new mail. Should the icon (that stupid metal dog) not be different depending on whether there is or is not new mail?

My "little doggie" stays the same but I get an icon in the status bar and an audible tone.

I don't like having to manually clear the notifications in the status bar after I have opened K9 and read the mail. Do you know if there is a way around this?

Are you sure that those notifications aren't from the built-in, stock, email app. Go to Menu and open email and make sure all notifications are turned off. Then go to K-9 and turn notifications on.
