Android OS Back Up?

Hi All,

I recently came over to Android from an iPhone. One of the things I loved about the iPhone is that when you sync with your computer, you back up everything on your phone, including your downloaded apps.

So far, I haven't found anything like that for Android. Is there some way to back up my apps, so that if I get a new phone, I don't have to download each one individually?

My contacts and info are already backed up, so all I really want is to back up my apps.

TIA,

Yaniv

The way to do it similar to iPhone, but easier is go to settings -> privacy -> check "back up my data" and "automatic restore"

That will backup all your apps to your google account. When you switch phones during the setup you will be asked if you want your data automatically backed up. If you check that box all your apps will be automatically downloaded. Works the same as backing up the iPhone to iTunes, except Android does it all wirelessly!!

If you want some other backup methods there is MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup (need root) that can create backups on your SD card.

MyBackup is an app that backs up your apps, your homescreen layouts, and your settings.

If you are rooted, Titanium Backup gives you a lot more flexibility and options for backup.

Also, rooted phones can create an image of your entire internal memory (called a NANDroid backup). This backs up not just your personal apps/data, but the operating system, the kernel, recovery, radios, etc. It doesn't get any more comprehensive than that.

MyBackup Pro will also back up call logs, SMS, mms, dictionary, etc. I back up all of that automatically every night. They both backup apps and their data the same if you are rooted, I just prefer titanium backup for apps because of the other features.
