Help Who actually uses motoblur launcher/account?

As a noob to android phones I enjoyed the novelty of trying all of the launchers out in the market. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ended up going back to using motoblur! Since the latest update it zips along nicely enough for me.
Mind you, I still like to check out anything new that comes along......

You need it to initialize the phone however most of the features can be defeated if need be. I have Launcher Pro, and ADW, but I always end up going back to Motoblur homescreens. I actually prefer the Messaging, Toggle, and Contact widgets.

I don't think you do need it though? When I first got my phone I did set up an account but then then after I did a reset to factory settings (to remove my default gmail account) I did not set it up when it asked me to.

The only time it has ever come up is when I tried to check for updates, which makes me think perhaps I should just set up the account but someone said Motorblur in the background slows down phone. - What features can you turn off like you said?

I don't see any way in which motoblur could be better than other launchers but then again I did not give it much chance. I think it must vary depending on how much you social network as well. I'm not a huge facebooker but at the same time I have a ton of fb friends as I am basically friends with everyone I know from school, college, uni, friends, work etc. I hated all of them being in my phonebook and stuff. I couldn't find a way to delete them so I had to remove my fb account from the motoblur accounts, in which case motoblur is a bit redundant?

I was prompted after I did a factory restore, and also when I swap in my AT&T SIM. This "may" have changed following the first system update, as I have not tried since then, but I was not able to find a way to bypass the MotoBlur setup/login screen when prompted.

I basically did not implement the social/family/facebook/contacts integration via MotoBlur. However it was not because of all the reasons "most people" dislike Blur, but because I do not find the functionality beneficial for me.

I've set up my motoblur account now. It wasn't actually an option in the 'accounts section' the motoblur part was not clickable and I was a bit worried I'd have to reset to factory settings again but I went into the check for updates part in settings and when it told me I needed a motoblur account to get updates it took me to the motoblue setup screen. I logged into the account I made before I did the factory reset and it logged in and downloaded the update fine.

So there you are, definitely possible to function normally w/o a motoblur account, but you can't get updates. I wonder if this update will change anything much. haven't notice much difference.
