Help Really random strange battery problem!

So I've read all I can read about the Desire and its battery problems, but this time its different. Heres my issue:

I got my new HTC Desire and charged it up fully for 12 hours (this was what I was told to do, and I've read in numerous places that this is a decent time frame) and only after I had finished this without interuption I turned it on. So to make it clear I turned the phone on for the first time after 12 HOURS of charging at the wall while off.

Everything seemed ok, etc, etc, and then of course the batteries dying in no time like everyone elses. Now heres where it gets weird. After reading on here and everywhere else how bad the battery is the first thing I did was turn OFF all the battery eating crap:

WIFI - OFF
3G - OFF* (only on when I turn it on MYSELF)
Screen - Dimmed to like 10%
Sound - Silent
Vibrate - OFF
Bluetooth - OFF
SYNC (this is for EVERYTHING) - OFF
Haptic feedback - OFF

Basically everything is off. When I HAVE used the net, I turned on 3G for that (not wifi) and used Opera mini (because 3mb avatar gifs are funny on pc's, not so much when you have a 500mb monthly limit).

I know where all the menus are for running services, manage apps, etc and turn off all the calenders, stock exchange syncs, everything like that.

So bare in mind that this is a seriously streamlined phone in terms of stuff I have enabled, imagine my dismay as after a few txts my battery is literally going down before my eyes. it barely lasted the day, charged over night, same again the next day, barely an hour of 3G usage on opera, admittedly i txt A LOT, but come on.

I tried juice-defender, ATK, battery widgets and Im firmly in the corner with people who think they do more harm than good (my 13hour awake time while using them tells me everything i need to know!!! awful!!) So i got rid of all of them.

So my point is - whats going on and what can I do to fix it. Android System takes up a huge amount of my data usage. I find TXTing is the killer here for me, purely because im not using ANYTHING else hardly! I've factory reset my phone (to get rid of those pesky apps TOTALLY) and am charging ready to go to war with this again tomorrow morning.

I feel this is totally ruining the experience of having a smart phone which can do all this stuff. I'm sat there with a totally black background with just the message icon on my entire sense homepage in the hope of saving battery and it barely lasts a day. Pathetic. Its worse than when I had a Nokia 3310 lol at least that had snake!!! I darent download any games incase it kills my battery even more. In these days of apps, widgets, whatever, surely me TEXTING my friends isn't killing the battery to the point where it lasts under 12 hours?

In all seriousness my previous phone was a SE W995, which I left 3g on ALL the time and would last for days with loads of txting, facebooking, etc. I have put my sim back in that while the Desire charges upstairs. I hope I can find the answer to all this because its just not good enough, not fit for purpose. Help!!

Try turning off haptic feedback.

Then honestly, give it a few weeks it will improve a good bit. Don't get me wrong, it will never be as good as you'd like, but it will get better :)

Yea I'm willing to give it chance, its just frustrating of course. I'm thinking of trying this 'calibration' in a week or so, but some people are saying when doing the calibration you should 'wipe the battery stats' or something. I'm guessing this is something to do with rooting or whatever, I have NOT rooted or done anything like that. On a normal Orange phone, how to I wipe the stats, do I need to? could I simply factory reset instead? confused.com

So it was charged last night about 1.30 am, took it off charge went on the internet and played a couple of games for a bit. woke up this morning, have sent about a dozen texts and checked facebook. I then have a look at the battery meter at 1.30pm, 12 hours later (8 of those hours sat idle while I slept...) and its 50%. half way done....

I have to go out soon and theres no way that this is going to last me the whole day so im bringing my old phone as spare. Whats the point of having this phone lol I may as well just use the W995 like before. It really is a freaking disgrace lol i mean i've been asleep for 8 of those 12 hours!! Its like choosing between having a half decent car that can go hundreds of miles OR having really nice car but it cant go 3 miles without needing fuel, so it defeats the purpose of having one. Poor effort HTC, really poor.

Something sounds wrong... should not be that bad. Go to dialler and *#*#4636#*#*

Then select battery history
then in the top drop down select partial wake usage

What do you seen in the various bars?

All the bars seem to be 'small' but it goes like this:

Dialer
Android System
Facebook
Messages
Media
UID 10013
Calender
Mail

Now i disable calender and mail as soon as i boot it so there we have it, no idea what those things mean. What on earth is UID 10013? lol

Your battery drain does sound excessive. The Desire, like most smart phones, aint gonna last days with heavy use, but you should be able to get a day out of it, much more if you are careful. I normally charge once every 2 days, although I am out of the honeymoon, can't stop playing with it, period.

Anyway, be suspicious of Facebook. Some previous updates it caused to consume enormous amounts of battery, although I thought they had fixed it. You can't uninstall the whole app, but you can get rid of the updates. Sounds dramatic to have to resort to this, but it would be nice to know what is causing the drain.

How much drain do you get when phone is on standby? Sorry if you have said this previously... Say you leave it over night and don't touch it?

Battery does get better for most people over a week or so, but if you have a faulty one you want to take it back sooner rather than later. You clearly understand how to save battery, so I do wonder whether something is wrong with your phone.

Put it this way. I have had my phone unplugged all day from 9am. I have had wifi / 3g on all the time. I have had screen brightness on full. I have sent quite a few texts, browsed a little and played games whilst sitting on the train. I have not made any calls. My battery is at 51% and it is 22:27 - about 12 hours unplugged. It will lose about 2-3% max overnight on standby, meaning I should be able to get another day out of it, provided I reduce screen brightness and am not silly with 3g. Have had my phone since May 2010.

The facebook usage in my stats is due to me using it the night before, I was setting it up etc, (ironically I was changing the sync to the lowest possible update LOL) and i always force stop it when im done using it.

I was a laughing stock at work earlier sat with my mate with his google/samsung nexus s with the live background, 3g ALWAYS ON, bright screen, homepage FILLED with stuff and he had 75% left from the night before. I'm there with my Desire, stock black background, 2 app icons (messages and facebook), GSM network, lowest dim setting with under 50% battery from the night before. Hell even my W995 made me look less stupid. To say I'm mildly unpleased with my HTC purchase would be the understatement of the year. My mood is changing more to unamused from unimpressed now.

Seriously considering ringing orange with all the stuff i'll spoken about on here and basically shout at them until they give me a nexus s. funny because in most places the desire seems more highly regarded? Its an odd world we live in.

As I said, your battery drain seems abnormal and I don't blame you for being unimpressed. I'd give Orange a ring and get them to swap the unit.

just to update, im sending it back and getting something else. After all the hassle you have to go thru just to get a days battery life out of the thing (with or WITHOUT a battery fault) I simply cant be bothered with it. Added to the fact that Ive also been reading that the SAR radiation level it gives out is over double what the Galaxy S gives out, its a no brainer really.
