What good do all those fancy UI changes do me if they are killing my battery?

Switched back to the official MIUI Mod 3.4 and my battery life is excellent.

I don't understand how MIUI Mod, a more UI intensive ROM has better battery life than even Gingerbread...

Yes, I've noticed this and will probably move to a different ROM soon. Seems to be radios. If I put it in airplane mode, very little battery drain at all. Is there a setting I've forgotten to look for. This didn't used to happen.

Let me know if you figure it out, but I digged deep in EVERY menu I could find to tweak Gingerbread to use as little resources (i.e. shutting off unecessary effects, etc) but no luck.

I'd love to use Gingerbread, I'm a fan of using the latest and greatest, but not if it isn't the greatest.

It's definitely radios. Specifically wi-fi. Under About Phone -> Battery Use when you click on the (ugly, but cool) graph, there's evidence that whilst screen is off, wi-fi is on. Seeing as I've selected to turn off wi-fi when screen is off, that's no good.

Hopefully Google will roll out a fix soon enough, it can't have gone unnoticed.

Then root it and install CM7 ...fast just got faster with this "geek-release".

Under battery usage is Android OS using a large percentage of your battery? It should normally be about 1-2%, but for the first 1-2 days of Gingerbread it was using 20-30%. It went away after a couple of reboots, now I'm actually getting improved battery life.

I also feel that my battery life has improved. GB has really given the N1 a nicer overall feel and I am back in love with this phone (which is good because I was on the fence about switching, but I think I will hold off for a bit).

No, for me the big usage is cell standby. I spend 9 hours in a bulding with no cell signals (why I don't have a contract) and battery plummets unless I go into airplane mode. If I'm where there is good reception, the battery is fine. It's not that it doesn't make sense, it's that I have had this situation the entire year I have had my N1 and this is new behavior. It's not a big deal to pop it into airplane mode, I just have to remember to turn it back off later.

I will probably end up with Cyanogen 7 soon. I just wanted to spend some time getting familiar with stock Gingerbread first.

oh ...trust me, CM7 is not even close to stock rom ...you will have to re-familiarize yourself with this one.

I like most of the updates from gingerbread, but how did they release this update and not make sure Google voice was compatible? I used G voice all the time, and now I don't have it at all. I haven't had all the other problems people are complaining about. My battery works wonderfully, the phone going to the call logs instead of the dial pad is nicer to me, and I like the new keyboard. I just miss my google voice

Yes, just haven't gotten around to it. You know what's going to happen is I'll leave it in airplane mode and then lose it like you did and not be able to use Lookout to find it.

Mine ran out of battery!!!! Lesson learnt from losing the phone the year before, I had lookout, where's my droid, and a couple other 'find your android phone' on my Nexus One. I thought I was prepared. Only bad thing...it ran out of battery when I realized it was lost, so I couldn't use any of 'em! And yes...I've lost 2 phones in 20 months...

HTC have stated that the Incredible S will ship in the UK with Foyo but will update to Gingerbread 2.4 the Google bug free release version when it's available!

in a few words ... it's black with dark-grey coating it's not that of a big deal the UI of gingerB ...if you see one SS ,you see it all

One thing that I have done to improve battery life when a 3/3.5G signal is low/not available is as follows:-

Keypad > *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information > Set preferred network type: (my phone came with WCDMA preferred which meant it was constantly searching for that in low or non existent areas) > change setting to GSM auto (PRL)

Don't worry, you will still connect to 3.5G using this setting, if it is available but it is not constantly sucking battery life searching for it.

Everyone needs to do this immediately and thank the poster for providing this.

My god... it's like night and day. Before enabling this, I got about 12-14 hours of moderate to heavy usage on my Nex'un before needing to recharge.

This has bumped me to 20+. Good lord. WTF. Why would this stupid thing be enabled by default? It's a battery killer!

Keep an eye on it, it will revert back to WCDMA Preferred periodically.
