internal and message memory full

Ive had my droid fascinate for a few months and havent had any major problems until today. Even though ive downloaded nothing today my phone suddenly told me that the internal memory was low on space and shortly after told me that it was full. i checked and had no internal memory, and then my phone decided my messages were full. i deleted all my threads and many apps, i now have 50.31mb of internal free and no text messages but am still getting a low memory warning even though i know ive had less than this in the past without the warning. and it wont let me recieve new messages as it assures me my message memory is full. please help!
i tried restarting but it still doesnt work :( and is it possible to transfer apps to the sd card without rooting my phone? i have 8.32gb remaining on my sd. sorry if this is in another thread i looked and couldnt find a solution.

Its a fascinate, I got it new around November and its updated. Not sure what number exactly the firmware is, sorry
For firmware, go to... Menu > Settings > About phone > your Android version is shown there.

I'm guessing that you're probably on FroYo (2.2) now, if you updated.

So, go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications.

Here you will see a list of your app's. Long press on each one and when the next screen opens it gives you the option to move that app to SD card.

CAUTION.

You should not move some app's to SD card as this may cause them to behave incorrectly on your phone. These include any wallpaper app's you use, anything with widgets that you use and any home screen launcher app's you may have.

Hope this helps.

2.1 !!!

Plus you are unrooted (or not willing to root).

Narrows the options down a bit I'm afraid.

You could install Cache Cleaner NG, free from the Market, and clear your caches out. You could also open your browser and go to Menu > More > Settings and clear the caches there.

That may free up some space for you in a simple way that doesn't involve a complete wipe of your phone or rooting or changing your ROM to a custom one.

Why isn't my phone 2.2? Do I need to update it or something? And I probably will just factory reset soon. Thanks
Good question...

2.1 (Eclair) was released Jan 2010 and 2.2 (FroYo) was released in July 2010 with 2.3 (Gingerbread) released Dec. 2010. However, depending on the handset manufacturer, the model of handset and if the handset is branded to an operator, this can dramatically increase the length of time, if at all, that an update is available for your phone.

Which operator are you with?

Judging by this thread on the forum, as of today, Samsung Fascinate owners are STILL waiting for 2.2 with no firm release date given!

Yeah, what operator do you use?
My Nexus one is unbranded and so therefore I can use any operator and get the latest firmware releases. At the moment I'm with Vodafone UK.

A little tip that may help you in future postings, is if you amend your User CP (above on the blue line underneath Reply to Thread) > Edit Details > Current Device and put in the make, model of your phone (Samsung Fascinte) as well as the Android firmware you are on (2.1) and that you are unrooted on Verizon. Unless you choose to root and install a custom ROM, this should be enough information to give for any other queries you may have.

Thanks for all the help :) I'm glad my phone is working again.
My pleasure. I'm just glad that you have managed to sort things out.

Personally, I would root the phone which would allow you more freedom to install app's such as Titanium Backup and ROM Manager as well as considering installing a custom ROM on 2.2 or even 2.3. Of course, this may void your warranty but at this rate you may not get Gingerbread (2.3) on your phone for another 9 months... if at all.
