New member and I want to say thanks to all who have contributed to the helpful information on this site.

After doing some searching, I see where Dolphin is highly recommended, but after doing some playing around I noticed something pretty strange. I like to listed to music streaming and the stock browser seems to allow Flash play audio, but the Dolphin browser can not recognize it. Does anyone know why?

The problem with listening with the stock browser is that when the phone goes into standby mode, it stops playing. Does anyone know how to keep it playing when the screen turns off?

BTW, I love the phone, and I dont know why I waited so long to get one...:D

Byrdman,

You can try downloading "Screen On" from market, and set it to keep screen on for Browser. Or you could also download the Screen toggle widget which when tapped, cancels current screen off settins. Unfortunately both of these options still require you use the Stock browser, but since it can't be removed just use it when you want flash, and not for anything else...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am going to try the apps mentioned above to see how they work. To make it work, I took the backlight function off and have been getting in the habit of turning the screen off manually when I'm done using any of the apps. Maybe those apps do the same thing automatically.

I tried the Dolphin browser and while it wasn't bad, I don't see what makes it better than the stock Hero browser. The pinch-zoom is slower than the stock browser. It has tabs but the tab bar takes up precious screen real estate. I know you can hide the tabs but that requires extra time/button presses to hide and unhide. With the stock browser you basically have tabs, they're just called windows. Menu>windows then you can select the one you want to jump to. Also, stock browser has flash support built in. I think I'll stick with the stock browser for now.

I would give Dolphin another try if they found a way to display the tabs and make selecting them easy, while being very tiny and unobtrusive. And if they get flash support and pinch-zoom performance on par with the stock browser.

Yeah, I only stumbled upon those features by accident. Swiped my finger and all of a sudden I was on another tab, I was like .

The one thing I don't like is that the search button brings up the url bar. It should bring up a search bar. Then the search button from the home screen goes to the stock browser, which isn't exactly Dolphin's fault but still.

See, I didn't know about that functionality. Thanks mattcoz! However, that still leaves the sluggishness of the multi-touch zoom and no flash support.

Admittedly, I think I've only watched maybe 1 flash video in the browser. I generally just use the youtube app anyways. Maybe I'll give Dolphin another try.

I totally agree with flammenwurfer. Dolphin browser has great ideas such as gestures, very easy and fast browse menu, fast exit, tabs, but zoom feature is noticably slower than stock browser (hero), has no flash support and does not autofit text after zoom in and out. However, it loads pages faster than the stock browser, I don't know how it does it though.
For the time being I'll stick to the stock browser but I can change my mind if dolphin solves the things I mentioned above via an update.
