Has Anyone Switched from Verizon Droid to Sprint EVO4

Greetings Everyone,

My hubby and I currently both have Motorola Droid's and obviously are on Verizon. We have been on Verizon and have been very happy with them and the reception we get in our area (we live in SF bay area, work in SF live in San Jose). We are also both happy with our Droid's. With that being said we are really thinking of switching to Sprint. My first reason is price. With a discount from my employer (which I also have on Verizon) I would save about $47 a month on my bill. Of course the EVO4 in and of itself is also a very compelling reason to switch?

I'm wondering if anyone has made the switch? Were you happy? Anything you would do differently? I appreciate any and all feedback!

I know currently the EVO4's seem to be back ordered so I'm not in a hurry to make the switch.

Hiya! I actually made the switch, even without a corp discount I saved about 20 a month. I live in a Verizon city, almost everyone has verizon, and I tell you what ... I like my sprint phone. I have had Verizon for 7 years, had Sprint before that. Sprint used to be garbage, now i get a phenom reception. Very happy with it. Plus, you can return it after 30 days, so ... yeah.

I miss ... the root. The Droid was unlocked and rooted so fast and hard, it was crazy the options I had. The EVO is getting there with options, but if you leave your phone stock ... this is a moot point.

I want to root so I can tether without having to pay for it. beyond that, no biggie.

The Evo is fast, works great, and is larger, but that's nice because of the whole no keyboard thing. The soft keyboard is great though, so don't worry about that. I adjusted very fast.

I don't have the battery issues that people are complaining about, but there are other options to fix that.

As far as being in stock, check your Best Buy's. I couldn't find one out here at a sprint store, but called a Best Buy, they checked the area and a store about 20 minutes away had twenty. TWENTY.

I have the Invisishield, and love it. I still turn on my droid from now and again to get some info or whatnot and it's great and fast, but it's not my EVO. I say go for it. Get one in White and one in Black, so you know who's is who's.

From a financial standpoint, switching to Sprint is a no brainer. Even without any discounts, Sprint costs less. I also get a corporate discount on top of the savings which makes it untouchable. If you liked your Droid, you will Love the EVO. Sprints coverage is pretty good in your area, and I noticed they are building more towers in your area. I travel to the bay area (Fairfield, San Jose, Benicia, San Fran) to visit friends 4 times a year and always have good coverage. Also, I'm a pilot and travel to random towns all over the US from the California coast to the state of Mississippi on daily basis. I need good coverage for flight plan and weather info... so if dead zones were a problem, I could not and would not be with Sprint. The network has good coverage... so don't worry about that. You'll save money and get a Sweet phone (EVO)!! Ohh, and 4G is right around the corner.

@mojo1094: check out the links in my sig. IMO it's the easiest way to achieve a full root on the evo. The kernel mod is optional if you don't care about CPU throttling and uncapping the framerate restriction.

Sprint's data plan gives you more than any other network. The two biggies are the unlimited SMS and unlimited mobile to mobile for ANY carrier. Sprint's image took a beating with the acquisition of nextel as well as building a reputation of poor customer service. Now they're on a comeback with the Evo and with a new mission to have the best customer satisfaction of any carrier. I've been a Sprint customer since 1999 and I have always been satisfied, both with coverage and with customer sat.

I had been with Sprint for 10 years and went to Verizon and the Droid. 29 1/2 days later I was begging to come back and the guy at the store found me an Evo even though there was a huge waiting list - (Port date was passing you see...) Even turned my old account back on and gave me my discount and preferred status back..... I'm not going anywhere -especially not back to Verizon.

Better coverage and a much better feeling and operating phone......

I recently switched from AT&T (iPhone 3GS) to Verizon and picked up Droid X.

I used it for 10 days while searching for an Evo. Found one at Radio Shack and switched to Sprint. I liked the Droid X but prefer the Evo and the reception has been great so far. I have the 30 days to decide but I am liking the Evo.

I had verizon, it's service is way better than sprint, but not 47 dollars a month better. In your case, I would go with sprint. Evo is pretty sick too, but I'm sure the droid x is right there with it so it's purely a money factor.

its amazing to see that sprint finally got a device that is pulling people away from verizon and onto their network..

Me personally, ive always been with sprint since back in the days..first cell phone was a sprint phone..ive used some other devices, yes the Tmobile Sidekick error when everyone and their mother had one, not on contract, only on prepaid..also used a Berry tour on the sprint network..no complaints here. picked up my evo on launch day. been enjoying it ever since

I made the switch purely for reception issues. I work out of my home and I could not get a clear phone call. It took me 5 months to get out of my contract, but it was worth it.

I miss the QWERTY keyboard on the Droid, but I'm loving the bigger screen and Sense UI on my Evo! The Evo does seem faster, but I think it can be pushed more to the edge. As for the call quality...its great. I would say I only hear static 1% of the time and I dont have to repeat what I say!

The first thing to consider is if Sprint has good reception in your area. If it does, then it would be my guess that once you switch, you will NEVER look back.

Our family has 4 phones and we were in the exact same situation. I had
my Droid less than 30 days and returned it, then left Verizon. We live in a
small town south of Minneapolis and this is our second month on Sprint
and we're liking it so far. Coverage is ok and I haven't had any problems
with signal, except in our family room in the basement. Otherwise, we get
2-3 bars on the main floor, and 3-4 bars on second level. The EVO is a
great phone, and don't regret switching. My wife has been using Sprint for
a long time (Company Phone), so we had an idea how the signal would be
if we switched. I have to say that Sprint's coverage map is pretty close
to what I'm seeing on my phone.

If it's any help, you can check out www.sensorly.com , check the maps section. This website will show you coverage of each of the major carriers and allow you to quickly compare carriers. They include Sprints 4G coverage. I'm with sprint and their maps for sprint seem to mirror my experience pretty closely.

Also, Sprint does having a roaming agreement w Verizon so you will get voice coverage wherever you get verizon today... My understanding is that you won't get 3G when roaming on verizon however.

Do it. I switched from Verizon to Sprint and to be honest I can't really tell a difference in my coverage. I am in Stockbridge Georgia, just outside of Atlanta and my coverage is fine. I haven't had a dropped call or any coverage issues yet. I also receive a 20% monthly discount as well. Just do it you won't regret it.

In your case with 4 new lines of service it might pay to ask for "airave" for your house, just explain you have service problems inside your house, and you might have to move back to verizon because of it and chances are you MIGHT get one for free.

I live in san Jose and I have great reception. Had Sprint for 7 years. You could always get an evo on a new account to test it out. Before your 30 days is up you can cancel that account and get all your money back if you're not happy. If you like it port your Verizon number over and cancel the other. You will still get a full refund on it.

I switched to Sprint from Verizon after 7 years with big red. After switching from a Verizon tour to a Sprint tour, I realized that I was a complete fool for spending the money I did with Verizon. I dont care what anyone says, Sprint is just as good as Verizon. I'm completely happy with sprint after about a year. Now I have the Evo and its even better.

My phone is my office and the Evo is a beast for business as well as for fun. If the coverage is good in your area, give them a chance and im sure you'll be more than satisfied.

I switched Monday from a Droid X. Nice design but it had chronic 3G signal issues and ran really hot. Both that and a replacement. I gave up.

I originally had Verizon(as did my brother) and I switched to Sprint for the Evo and aside from any major issues i had with Sprint and minor annoyances i had with the Evo,
it was a decent phone

I've since switched back to Verizon and I have a droid x

my brother made the jump and he seems the thoroughly like it...He just got his evo and Sprint seems to work out for him....well, now that we have moved and our college is in a great Sprint area it works out for him...

My opinion, the phone is wonderful and I am sure you will love it...My father and brother both do and even the issues i had with HTC and their build quality, I loved it

But before cancelling your verizon contract, test drive Sprint out...

I made the mistake on blind faith and jumped to Sprint without fully researching and experimenting.

I always thought switching to Sprint was a bad idea (you hear stories) but all of the carriers have stories. I've mostly been a Blackberry junkie, but when I learned about the EVO and Sprint giving $125 credit in selected areas for each line ported over to them and the purchase of Smart Phone, I couldn't say no. This special is going on now through some time in April. Not only that, but depending on the industry you work in, you can get a discount on your monthly bill. My sales agent actually told me everything over the phone before I even got to the store. He was fantastic. I am paying far less than what I was paying Verizon and am so much happier. The EVO is amazing; just make sure you download one of the app killers (the icon looks like a green guy with a blue x over him). This app saves your battery. Also turn off GPS and 4G when you don't need them.

Go with Sprint if you have coverage in your area and you'll never know you switched carriers. I'd suggest forgoing the Task Killer and just turning down your display to 25 or 30%...there are dozens of threads that discuss bad things happening from task killers.
