The battery on my desire won't make it on my daily hours with the most minimum usage. Day starts at 5 am goes to 11pm. I did not use the browser once today and took 2 calls totaling 10 min. I received emails but did not respond. Full charge last night and already at 6 pm I'm in the yellow and by 9 at the latest it is saying charge or shut off. I have all auto sync set to 4 hours.

root your phone and flash CM6.1.1
That will definitely last you a full day and maybe another half, if used minimally

Talk about jumping in at the deepend.

Although yes, I like rooting and CM based roms, I can't honestly say this is good advice to this person.

Please never suggest so lightly that someone roots their phone because:

1) It is often overkill and not what the user wants or needs

2) They jump in with both feet, wreck their phones and its muggins 'ere (and my peers) who have to help them sort it out ;)

So, do you turn anything off? Ever?

Are you connected to 3G or Wifi all day? How often are your apps set to sync? What apps are syncing? What is your screen brightness? What else are you using your phone for?

Everything you have on uses battery, whether it's in the background or not.

I make it consistently through a whole day with my Desire. I might even be able to stretch to 2 days sometimes.

I like to have auto brightness on, but other than that I have my phone set to do the following (using Tasker, but you can do similar things with Juice Defender for example):

- Wifi on only when Wifi networks are available
- When no Wifi, mobile data turns on every 30 minutes (for 2 mins duration) to sync
- Mobile Data on whenever screen is on

Bluetooth and GPS are always off.

I don't use facebook of twitter. I don't use IM clients (google talk runs however). I've heard those can use a lot of battery.

Any processor intensive apps (like some games) also use battery a lot - streaming video or audio too.

Or, you could carry a charger with you to work?

How do you make it where your mobile data turns on when your screen turns on? Or do you just do it manually?

Ducky1979 set this up too. Have a look through his posts. Can't remember what thread but.it was in the rooting forum and not called anything to do with tasker

Edit> thread is called "juice defender or set CPU" can't get link via app
