Will the size bother you?

Just curious. I have the incredible and am happy with the way it fits in my pocket. I am planning on getting the TBolt tomorrow, but I am concerned about the larger size. Have others used the larger screen phones and "pocketed" it ok? Or will I need a holster?

Great question, and it bothers me that this hasn't been talked about more.

I went into a store a few weeks ago and got to handle a dummy unit. The phone is NOT as big as one would think, it EASILY slides into a jeans pocket, but it IS a bit heavy. I'm not saying the weight is like a dumbbell, but the thing feels a lot heavier than a Fascinate for example. Looking at the specs, I see that they are close, but the Droid 2 is very similar in weight. I think that weight can be a double sided thing. It is heavy, but that heaviness is because of the premium materials and does feel nice in the hand.

Its funny, the longer I go without handling it, the more I think its too big, but everytime I see it compared to another phone or get to hold it myself, I realize that it isn't too large at all.

You will absolutely not need a holster, unless you wear tight pants.

Meaty paws or long fingered folks with be OK, but if you have held the EVO or DX and did not like it, the TB will be no better.

I still think a 4" is the sweet spot for phones, but I am not too thrilled about Samsung phones for obvious FW update support reasons.

imho, the fascinate should not be used for any weight comparisons. that phone just feels hollow.

that said, i'm coming from the incredible and also took the time to handle a thunderbolt dummy unit (weighted) - and it definitely took me back. it did feel heavier than the x, despite having a slightly smaller frame.

i also just held my friend's at&t inspire 4g. it felt lighter than the dummy unit, so hopefully the real unit won't be as heavy as the dummy...

My concern is more with the actual chipset. Way slower than Tegra 2 and no way to spin it. If you do not play emulators you will not notice, but the MyTouch 4G is near half the speed of my gTablet playing N64 games. Did not try overclocking, but that would hurt battery performance and no need to OC the Tegra 2.

I will get the TB and see how things work out, but I may end up gambling on the Bionic having 4G unlimited too. I might lose that bet.

The size is a lot better. There's no way I could go back to a smaller screen size after 4.3 inch. Using the phone is significantly more pleasant and there's no issue with pocketing it.

Also, newer, more powerful phones will always be coming out. The Bionic is going to be a better device than the Thunderbolt, there's no real getting around it. The Bionic also isn't coming out supposedly for several months. There's gonna be better phones than the Bionic coming out for the Winter season too.

Yeah I rarely play games on my phone . In all honest the speed of my Incredible is more then fast enough for me so this will just be even better. I'm more of a business / social / music user then game/video media user other then streaming some NFL & NBA games and occasional hulu I rarely use video media on my phone

I had the Droid X and I didn't like how tall it was. But the TB is a tad wider and shorter. Ultimately, I really miss the screen size on the X, so I can't wait to get the T-Bolt. I also have had a case for a few weeks, so I have a pretty good idea.

IF the Thunderbolt has Netflix streaming capability, the 4.3" screen is great for me.

IF the Thunderbolt does not have Netflix streaming capability, the size is a nice to have feature for things like Youtube and surfing the web, but a 4.0" screen is probably better as you get the tradeoff of a slight phone size decrease.

Yeah I agree with you that the 4inch size is a great trade off. I don't see myself watching netflix on my phone more then a couple times a year so that's not a big deal. But I've used the EVO and owned a Fascinate and besides being the biggest piece of junk I've ever used the screen was perfect in size and also quality such a waste of a good screen

Sammy Stealth seems to follow suit since same UI and apparently not much internal storage space. Might just have 1gb internal (all for apps) and a 16gb micro sd card.

I had the droid x and it was pocketable so since the thunderbolt is similar in size I know some wont like the size but its not to large that it wont fit in pockets unless you wear skinny jeans

If the Galaxy Tab will fit in the front pocket then the T-Bolt wont have any problems. And yes I tried that with the Tab and it worked with khakis.

The large screen size was awesome for viewing the 'net and YouTube. But it was a little heavy and cumbersome to carry around. My friends with Droids all say you get used to it in about 1-2 weeks. After that you won't want to use a smaller screen. I had the Inspire about 1 week before I returned it because of slow internet speeds. The size was a touch annoying, but the display was soooo purdy.

We've got 14-30 days to return the beast if it doesn't work out. So that's nice. I am currently working on a 4 inch screen and I think that is just the right size. But not many good phones have that size, certainly none I want to keep for the next 2 years. This Samsung Galaxy S 4G is no good. But that could be t-mobile's network and not the phone.

after going thru 2 Fascinates (VZW Galaxy S) I have to say it's the phone. Outside of the screen it's the worst high end android phone I've ever used . I tried so hard to like it since the screen was perfect for me but couldn't get past all it's flaws I even rooted tried multiple roms kernals etc and just never got it to run properly

Just a thought. The Nexus S 4g that will be coming out on Sprint should be around 4 inches, if it is the same size as the current NS4G on T-Mob, and I've read where the voice quality might not be stellar. Sprint has decent coverage in general and good plans, but not sure if I'd gamble on a longer wait.

Same here. The screen is SOOOO beautiful on the phone you want so bad to love it. The camera was amazing as well. But thats IT on the SF. Everything else about the phone sucks. HTC and Moto may not have amoled tech, but they atleast make the rest of the phone well.
