Ok, Im ready to ROOT. How long is the process?

Brian, I am using Launcher Pro and that allows you to add stuff to the dock, as for the other with the contact that is an app called Launch X from the market

I'm just wondering how you added things to the bottom of the screen. I'm also wondering how you did the thing second from the bottom with the contacts and their pictures.

Yep you can use it for apps or contacts, I am using the free version, but they also have a paid version with more options

I would definitely say +1 on using LauncherPro. It works better with AOSP Android 2.3 in my opinion.

I like the looks of that Launch-X app, DonB. I will have to give that a shot.

Thank you guys for all the help. I guess one more question....When I was running 2.1, I was able to link my facebook contacts to my phone contacts and this would put their facebook picture up everytime they called. Is there any way to do this with the updated ROM?

I think you can with the Facebook app. I am not 100% sure though. :)

I actually do not use Facebook. I am more of a Twitter fellow. ;)

Thanks to all the pros for walking through these steps. I finally rooted and flashed Froyo (AOSP) and am very pleased with the results.

One thing that hung me up that others might be interested in:
I installed the Gingerbread keyboard and could not get the voice input button to show up. I struggled for quite some time before I realized I had to download Google's Voice Search from the market. Voice Actions are awesome!

No once your rooted you are rooted unless you run an ruu which puts a sprint original rom on and thus unroots you. As for voicemail most people swear by goggle voice. I have never used it but that is always what people suggest to use instead of stock voicemail. I'm pretty sure you flash visual voicemail through recovery. And anytime you update your rom or change roms you have to reflash visual voicemail each time. And as far as navigation I love Google navigation that comes with most roms. Very accurate and up to date. Sorry no knowledge of the picture frame issue. Maybe some one else c

im running froyo and im putting it on a side screen you get the picture frame from the widget app but with the original screen it would let you veiw all your pictures in the album without having to go and actually opening the album app

Once your root, you will remain rooted until you install an RUU. You can reflash roms until you find one you like.

The best way I know to get the Sprint Nav and VVM is to
- restore your nandroid of your rooted stock ROM.
- Install Titanium Backup
- make a backup of it
- reflash the rom of your choice and restore via TiBU again.
Otherwise just google Sprint VVM apk and I am sure you will get hits.

I think the picture frame you are referring to is a Sense gallery widget that allows multiple pictures. Your ROM will have a gallery widget that allows one picture, but not multiples. You may want to search the market for one.
