HTC Tattoo - Getting rid of the Malaysian ROM

Hi guys,

I'm starting this post because that a lot of Tattoo user (like myself) purchased an unlocked phone that ended being a version for the Malaysia market. As far as I can tell, this version has two major limitations:

1 - You can only set the Locale option to Malaysia or Vietnam (English); limiting the use of predictive text to the English language.

2 - NO Android Market, only a disappointing duplicate named TouchME.

From a quick swipe in various forums, it seems that the only way to get by these limitations is to install an international ROM (Gold card)

My question is; was anyone performed this operation successfully? Is everything still working afterwards (GPS, 3G, HTC Sense, etc)?

I just ordered my unlocked Tattoo from smggsm.com and was wondering if anyone else has and if so did you have to perform the Malaysian ROM fix listed above.

I also have an unlocked tattoo phone bought from eBay, which has same malaysian rom, no market. It has youtube, gmail, yahoo mail, everything working though. Please put your experience while updating to the world edition rom here. I also want to perform this operation on my tattoo may be in a day or two. Please let me know how it goes...!! I dont have windows so i have not been abe to get a new rom installed.

I was also wanting 2 know if the international verson has chinese input ... anyone know?

Is there anyway 2 install apps like google voice and skype without market?

Hi every one!

I followed the instructions of capeli reply (post #2) and it worked like a charm. Everything is working fine (3G, GPS, etc). I only ran into a few problems while trying to read the SD card SID but after a few attempts it worked out fine, however I

after upgrade to WWE ROM, what version of os is there on the tattoo? 1.6 is the one currently I have on Malaysian ROM. Please let me know. Thanks. I want to update the ROM from Malaysian to WWE to get market on tattoo...

The Tattoo (until HTC drops another signed ROM), can and will only be running 1.6

1.66.x is the Malaysian ROM
1.67.x is the WWE

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have finally done the WWE ROM update getting rid of Malaysian ROM. Following is the method I have followed gathered from different threads. Awesome guidance by everyone here...Thanks again for that.

1. Followed the steps upto 19 from here (As mentioned by capeli) : http://androidforums.com/htc-tattoo/20498-unlocking-htc-tattoo-orange-uk.html#post132551

2. Did not use QMAT 5.06 here, instead followed the trick mentioned by Astrotoy7 here to get the Reverse CID and generate GOLDCARD image: http://androidforums.com/htc-tattoo/20498-unlocking-htc-tattoo-orange-uk.html#post185971

3. Also to get the ROM on Tattoo, just followed Astroroy7's method to run the Tattoo in htc sync mode and run the RUU_Click_HTC_WWE_1.67.405.6_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe from desktop and follow instructions from desktop, while tattoo is still conntected through USB with desktop.

4. The difficult part was to get SD card CID code, as I used the 2gb defult msd card and did several attempts to get it formatted in FAT32. As it was giving me write protected and failed format errors but I kept of repeating the format effort and it worked.
