Root New and a few questions

Hello,

I have an Ally, that I just "rooted" - so I think - using this guide.

I completed all the steps flawlessly, and it works! I now have Velocity 1.0 and I don't really know any options of things I can do, especially since this is my first ever rooted phone.

Another thing is I recently downloaded Titanium Backup free version from the market, and it said I wasn't rooted, or at least it said "Root Access: Failed".

Also, Is there a way I can go back to the original Stock phone.. thing? In case I needed to use the warranty?

Hey I too am new here and I just rooted my ally today - apparently you CAN go back to the stock. Unfortunately I can't tell you how. I know my brother did it on his incredible and I think you can do it on the ally. I also have velocity now too. There's an IRC channel somewhere full of helpful people from this forum who might be able to help you out more.

to use your warranty "unrooting" should do the trick, but if your nervous follow either trident or deathtoall's guide on this forum and just dont root at the end

stuff to do:
overclock: makes your phone faster, there is an app called terminal emulater and once in there type
su
velocity

that will bring you to the "vscript" which is pretty self explanitory
from the vscript you can theme, overclock, change fonts and bootanimations, and a whole bunch of stuff, but make sure you know what it does before you click it

Thanks, this has helped quite a bit, I've been just tinkering around, hopefully not ruining anything. Later I'll look into "un-rooting" as I did pay for a couple year warranty due to phone-luck with me.

The easiest way of going to a Stock Froyo Rooted or Un-rooted is to use my method of going back Stock. It has 1 step not 15 or more.

Thats one of the reasons we made these files. To help make it easy for warranty stuff. Of course if your locked out of Recovery.... well then your outta luck as far as my method is concerned. LOL

had to use it the other day because the motor that vibrates seemed to have just died

IMO most of the benefits to rooting that could be have been included in Velocity script. as for everything else read, SEARCH around and youll find your way.

I think he meant that you need to b full stock. If u just unroot while w/ v 1.0, they will see u modded ur phone and laug.

my fault i should have been more specific, i meant clear data and cache THEN unroot. sorry. and really when i was dumb i mail-in-rebated a phone that was stuck on the velocity boot screen and was never charged and got to keep the new phone, maybe i was lucky haha

to go back stock. ive used it on more than one occasion for shits and giggles and because the motor that vibrates seemed to have died and i had to take it back in. got to use stock froyo NOT rooted AND flash stock recovery. I had SIGNAL STRENGTH widget that when iut was loading said T-Mobile and the guy thought that meant i had rooted my phone and they spent 45 minutes tryin to prove it before giving me a replacement, so they work GREAT!

Dont be sorry. It can be confusing.
Well in the case of warranty stuff you would choose the Unrooted ver. of my Nandroids.

As far as Velocity goes... I just meant Velocity is not Stock no matter if its rooted or not. Its a ROM so that would be easily detected at the Verizon store. They would know you rooted and would void your warranty and you would be out of luck Chuck.

So basically it boils down to this if you have a warranty issue and are in need of return Always use the Unrooted ver. of 2.2.1 and then use Stock Recovery.zip to go back full stock.

The rooted ver. of 2.2.1 is just there for those who have no issues but just want to go back to a stock ROM because they like it better for whatever reason and like being rooted.
