Anyone going to get the thunderbolt?

I love my X however if the main guys in this forum like Steven58, faber, Binary, Colchiro, etc. move to the Thunderbolt or Bionic that's where I'm going. I think the support in this forum is what makes a phone successful. My X would just be a big ass phone without these guys.

I'm genuinely honored by this sentiment, Bankswood. As for me, I'm here for awhile. I love sense ui and HTC, but the TB isn't a big enough jump in tech for me to make the move. I don't use 3g much. I mostly use wifi anyway and my 3g is fine.

Don't get me wrong, I hate this locked bootloader. Just check out my avator. However, GoLauncher with transitions and the liberty you have with Liberty makes it more palatable for me. (see what I did there, with the liberty thing? :p)

Thanks Bank :)

Really nice of you to say, Bankswood.

Frankly, the tbolt isn't exciting for me. My area doesn't have 4g, but even though its slated to get it this year, I want dual core at the least and a higher resolution screen.

I'd love VZW to get a vanilla android device...

Locking in a 4g unlimited data plan is tempting me..

So, if you move over to the Thunderbolt, now, you are locked in with your present data plan price? I'm on that promotion that they had in January. The four phones in the house DX's and Incredibles all get 10 dollar data plans. I wonder if I would be keeping that when I upgrade to 4g.

I'm not sure if you'll lose that promotion but I know a 4g phone will have different coding in our system for the data plan. So yes you'll get locked in and idk about the promo.. I'm tech support.. Billing isn't something im keen on anymore lol

I'm getting it with a one year contract. It's not much of a step up, but it's still a step. 4G is going to be nice. Newer snapdragon processor and gpu are a plus. A ram increase from the X and no encrypted bootloader. I think it's an okay upgrade.

The video reviews I've seen so far, shows a very fluid UI. Web browsing is snappy and flash videos seems to play a lot smoother.

As for dual core, i'll wait for the next round. I'm still not sold on the Bionic.

Got tired of waiting for the Bolt and made the move to the X. Really happy with it and the support from everyone in this forum has made it a great phone. I know about 4-5 others with Droid Xs and have used what I learned from you ladies and ...gentlemen to make their phones a better experience. I won't be eligible for an upgrade until next fall and am ok with that.

You guys with the X, I'd hang on to them for now if I were you; both demo Thunderbolts at the store would not display many web pages, white screen only, no reload would fix it, and both locked up in the browser at several sites, including CNN, Fox News and ESPN.

As posted in the T-bolt forums, hopefully the updates coming to the device address that stuff (reviewers were reporting the freezing issue).

Welp,

I walked into the VZW store, today, hoping to be blown away by the new TB. The outside possibility was to buy it and give my son his first smartphone, my DX.

Welp.... I was very underwhelmed. To me, it was like the Evo's sibling. The screen was all meh. Then I went over to the iphone and gazed at its fantastic screen and got mad wondering why this hasn't come to android. We better step up or Android will be seen as iPhone wanna be. I'm sorry. I'm just a bit ticked at this. I was expecting more.

Bionic is coming with a higher res screen, Steven. qHD is on par with the iPhone resolution, and the Bionic/Astrix are coming with that higher res. I expect many new phones will.

Part of the problem is that the Android screen is almost a full inch bigger than the iPhone. Yes, the iPhone has better resolution but when you also cram it down to that small size, it appears even higher res.

So I just got the Thunderbolt. The phone itself is nothing special. There's not that much difference between it and the X in terms of performance or functionality. LTE is the only things that sets it apart. And let me tell ya, it is FAST! I think it's going to be super hard for me to go back to 3G after trying this.

I don't have any problems with those sites (mobile versions) on mine.

True dat. However, as an older middle aged man, I can tell you that whereas I'd need glasses or my contacts to see small print on the DInc or even the DX, I really DON't need it to see small print on the iPhone. That's major.

I'm sorry for ranting, before, but I really was disappointed, as I was hoping for more. I care about this stuff, too much.
