Help wifi to 3g or 4g

For some reason when I turn WiFi off it won't connect back to 4G. If i go into settings the mobile network data connection is checked. If I try unchecking it works but attempting to reenable it fails and it never completes successfully.

Anyone else have this problem? It seems pulling the battery works.

Just turned off my wifi and LTE connected almost immediately, so it's not universal.

Has anyone figured out a way to kill 4g without taking out the sim card? Just as a battery saver?
