I've had my phone for about a week and I've noticed that it crashes 2-3 times a day. I wanted to know if other people are having this problem. It happens most often when I'm using an app, but sometimes it happens when I'm just browsing the net. And the problem was there when I took it out of the box Is this a common problem with this phone or the Android system? Or is it just my phone that you think is malfunctioning?

Often what happens is that I try to open up an app. It starts to load and I usually get to the opening screen, but then it kicks me back out to my home page or app page. Sometimes I get an error and I'm told to force close. This happened even when I was just making a phone call.

Should I try getting it replaced or is this common?

Could be an app that is causing the behavior. Try to think back if it started after downloading a certain app. Some of the apps don't work with every android phone and can cause issues. Some apps are just written poorly. I have had to remove apps before that didn't play nice with my HTC Hero as well as this phone. Just part of the Android ecosystem right now. So, you could either wipe your phone and start over and see what happens or just remove apps one at a time to find the one causing issues. As far as hardware, mine is OK with no issues. I have had mine since they came out.

I considered this. This is my first smartphone/android, though I've played with others. When I first got it, it crashed a couple times but I figured that occasional glitches happen. It continued to occur and got worse. I had only installed maybe 5-6 apps. I finally decided to just set it back to factory settings, hoping it was just a software glitch. But the problem continues to persist. Unfortunately Target is sold out until next week, so I'll have to deal with the issues until I can swap it.

Anyone who has an Optimus V prone to freezing might benefit from what I learned over the weekend (in one of the forums, of course.) What cleared up my freezing problems was changing the wifi sleep policy to "never."
home/settings/wireless & networks/wi-fi settings/HOME/advanced
A lot of OV users, myself included, didn't know about the advanced settings, which are somewhat hidden in the menu. Fixed me right up.

Let me know how that works out with the Battery Off Charge Time.

Sorry, didn't realize this thread was still active. The problems persisted after the reformatting back to factory settings. It actually worsened, despite the fact that I did not install and new apps. It was crashing up to 7 times in one day, sometimes when no apps were in use whatsoever. I eventually exchanged it for a different one at Target. The replacement had none of the problems and has been going strong since.

That's interesting. I had an Optimus V, worked great while I used it. Then I upgraded to the Motorola Triumph and gave my Optimus to my wife. She used it for a while and then noticed that it was freezing all the time.

I had the Wifi sleep policy on never sleep (and yes, this did seem to kill my battery, but I was usually near a charger) and she does not. Maybe that's another thing I'll try.

Welcome to the forum j831.
Some people can't get a break for nothing. I have had this "V" for 9 months with not so much as a hicup.
Has all your phone's been doing this? Is that what your trying to say? One shouldn't do it, let alone all.
There is got to be something else going on. Maybe you could explain what all you do to the phone from the time it comes out of the box, until it starts the factory reset.

Switch my service to the replacement device.... I don't install any apps other than the stock apps the phone can be on the charger then power cycle. And just last night it did it while I was on the phone with vm. So I have to constanly have to sign in to my google acc. Inorder to use my device and like I said it does this to me more than enough times a day and its frustrating.

Could it be the current in your dwelling is a bit funky? I't just seem like there's a cause for this to be happening that has been dismissed or overlooked.
This is rare to happen once, but with every phone, there is a cause. Trade in your charger and USB cord. If that doesn't solve the problem it could be the current in your dwelling or you. I've heard of people that had a electrical current that keep them from wearing wristwatches(they would quit).
