Facebook Status Notifications & Integration

Hi, I've got a lot of contacts that are synced with their Facebook profiles and I really like the integration with the phone, especially in the 'People' app.

But I'm confused about how the notifications work. I get periodic notifications about updates from certain people, but when I click this notification it takes me to the People app's group tab, but none of the people who were in the notification show up here as having updates. It's usually just different peoples' birthdays or updates.

I tried refreshing the list here, but it still doesn't pull up any new people usually.

Do I have something setup wrong, or am I missing the point here?

Thanks!

I have the same problem with my Facebook notifications, showing updates, but none listed. This could be as simple as they edited a little bit of information on their profile like where they live, and it notified you that they updated. The Facebook notifies only shows specific updates like Photos, Activities, Status Updates and such. Could be an oversight by developers, not sure.

I disabled notifications since it was an annoyance to click on the notifications, and not see anything. I just prefer to go to the mobile web or the actual laptop to view face book and cook on my Cafe World! BWUAHHAHAH!

How do you turn off your Facebook notifications? I have the option unchecked in Settings --> Social Network --> Menu --> Account settings --> Facebook. Yet I still get notifications sometimes, such as for event invites.

It would be fine if the notifications were actually useful, but as stated above, it's stupid crap like "This person changed a couple words on their profile" and stuff that Facebook doesn't even notify you about... I have no idea why it does this, and it is very annoying...

Thanks. It's strange that it wouldn't just notify you of the types of updates that show up in the People app. That would sure seem to be more useful.

And btw, is this Facebook integration and notifications feature specifically a HTC Sense feature, or is it also built into standard Android systems? Just wondering, as it's not mentioned much at all as a strong feature of the Hero & Eris (most reviews just focus on hardware I guess).

I am not sure why, but.......

When you get a update notification (in the top left of the screen) that means some of your "People" (contacts on the phone) have updated their facebook. However when you click it, it takes you to the "Notifications" section of the "People" and only shows people that have updated their facebook account that are NOT contacts in your phone.

Again, I am not sure why or if there is a fix, but in the "Notification" it says who has an update, and if you go to your contacts and click on their name, you can scroll over to the Facebook updates for each individual contact.

I think this is because, one of their selling points was that you can look at "Everything" that your contact has updated in 1 place, so therefore, facebook updates from your Contacts DON'T also go to the general updates section. Who knows.

Anymore insight on this situation, please share!

I thought Google purchased it? I just looked it up and I guess that was just a rumor or something, my fault. But maybe they have so much intergration cause (as I was reading on wikipedia, the site you can trust 1000% haha) Facebook is the largerst social network and it appeals to more people than myspace.

Like how many of your Contacts in your phone are facebook friends 50-60%? Come on even my mom joined that, haha. But how many of your myspace or youtube (or whatever other social network) are contacts in your phone, less than 10%?

So maybe thats why?

of course they integrate cause they are the largest soc network. the way it works on eris is a sense/htc thing. i would venture a guess that stock android has a integration as well.

BB, also have bbconnect for FB.

as far as FB and Android are concerned, at least with eris, i think the integrated soc network sucks. i use twidroid and the FB app by FB, it has been updated recently and is pretty nice.

I agree that the Facebook integration is terrible. It is a great idea, but the execution just didn't pan out.

I like the fact that it can pull pictures and birthdays, but my pictures don't get updated (and I don't want to have update notifications turned on, because I don't want a notification every time someone changes their freaking profile). Also, the birthdays don't get integrated into Google. Sure, it shows up on the phone, but when I go to the Gmail website and look at my contact, the birthday is blank. WTF?

If they want to advertise Facebook integration, then they need to INTEGRATE IT!
