Who's passing on Thunderbolt and waiting for something else?

What Verizon devices do you expect to come out soon that might be worth the wait? I'm debating whether to jump on TB or wait for something else...maybe something good from LG or Samsung? Or maybe even dinc2.

right now it seems a bit chaotic with everyone complaining about TB battery life...so i will wait to see if that improves over the next couple of days.

I'm returning Thunderbolt before 14 day end back to verizon and wait for either Bionic or dual core Droid x with (4G?)

I am now waiting. But it had nothing to do with the battery. I already knew it would be bad. I got tired of all of Verizons games with the release and the rumors of tiered data so I got a temporary Blackberry. I ended up liking it very much. I am waiting to see what Blackberry offers and than decide. So the TB is not out now but its not set in stone any longer. It is very informative though to come here and see what is up with the TB. I will take it all in and it will help me make a decsion later this spring or summer.


I would be interested to see what people who said they werent getting it anymore after the delays, still ended up getting one.

I was in a similar situation as you may be in.
I had a BlackBerry Tour and while it has been one of the best phones I've ever had (probably the best, has survived falling 6foot+ drops onto tile time and time again, fell in water, etc and just kept on ticking), it eventually got pretty worn down.

My personal upgrade wasn't for another month, but there was an open one available from another family member on my plan, and they were okay with me taking it, so I took it.

I know that in several months there will be 1.5Ghz Dual Core phones, and ultimately in 2012 (albeit may be late) there could be that 2.5Ghz Quad Core chip being released in certain phones.

My reasoning was, the sooner I buy a new phone, the sooner I can get a new one (when my upgrade comes along).

This is my first droid and I was very nervous about hearing such bad battery life, but I must say, so far mine has been great. I haven't even needed to use my new extended battery I bought either...

I have been doing a ton of research on the HTC Evo, iPhone4, Thunderbolt, Bionic, et. al. My head is spinning. I almost pulled the trigger on the Thunderbolt yesterday, but after reading this forum, I might wait for the Bionic, which is apparently coming out next month. I have been limping along with my current phone for several months, so another (hopefully) won't hurt.

Several reasons why I am waiting:
I want to be able to use Netflix on the phone. I don't care about Skype. I do like the idea of the HDMI port. Also, to be frank (just don't call me Shirley!), I have seen a lot of negative here, not a lot of positive about the Thunderbolt.... And I am not worried about the battery complaints. I was in Verizon yesterday looking at a non-working demo, and really liked it. But, watching all the posts now that people have the phone and I am concerned. I hate buyers remorse! I know I am not going Apple. I am typing this from my iPad, but I refuse to own another device that will not run Flash. Don't get me started on THAT!

Sooooooooo.... I will continue watching and waiting. I will make my decision after the Bionic comes out. I have not had any android devices, so I am an extreme newbie.

I have no idea about Froyo, 2.2, Blur, Sense, etc. But, I have learned a lot from all you experts.

Ok ow devices will keep improving. I am drawing a line in the sand at Bionic.....

Do you have a corporate store you could go to and try a working model?

Still not sure, but considering the TB is a pain for most to root and (so far) not as easy as the Inc or other HTC devices to root- this may make me hold of for the Bionic and then have another Tegra 2 device to go along with my tablet. Caveats:

1. TB is a nice device and available NOW
2. Display is sweet
3. Not sure if unlimited 4G will last until the Bionic releases
4. Blur sux butt

Must admit it sux that Sprint is getting the TRUE update with the dual core 8660, but that would have made the TB even later in shipping.

Catch is does the Tegra 2 have the proper DRM keys so Netflix and Hulu apps will work? I have a Tegra 2 device now and still not sure.

The reason I didn't wait out the Bionic is because it's Moto and the bootloader with be locked down tight so no custom recovery and no Roms, at least not for quite some time.

Moto Blur vs. Sense...I love Sense, though I'll ve using launcherPro Plus sometimes when I get bored and want variety. But it's nice to have Sense on the device...it's like having another version of LauncherPro

I don't like the way the build of the Bionic looks. Much like the Atrix and samsung devices looks and feels cheap.

The speaker on the Thunderbolt looked impressive and turned out to be everything I hoped for.

I have a Xoom and don't need dual core on my phone.

I just switched from the original droid to the thunderbolt. I'm not worried about the complaints people have had about the thunderbolt. I remember when I first bought my original droid, there were a lot of complaints about its short comings. Those complaints generated updates that fixed most of the problems. the droid became a very reliable phone for me. I have no question that these complaints will be used to generate updates that will, in time, make the thunderbolt a great phone.
I'm sure that when the Bionic or any other new phones comes out in the next little while, they will also have issues that people will complain about.

Since this is your first smart phone/Andorid I might as well break it to you now.

Whenever ANY phone comes out, there will be alot of negativity in the beginning and a few Bugs.

Same thing will happen with the Bionic comes out and the one after that, and the one after that.

You will be waiting forever if you are waiting for a phone that doesnt come with its complaints and shortcomings.

Yes, there is a corporate store nearby. I stopped by another store on my way home from work yesterday. I didn't have time to go to the other store. But, I will probably do that. Plus, the store I went to was charging $299. They will drop to $249 if I bring in proof of that price, plus I get the $50 credit. But, I went to Amazon wireless and was going to buy for the $179.... A very significant savings.... Just the tax savings was $50 bucks. I went through all the steps until the the final click when the final deed would be done. I decided to wait a few days.

I was really set on the TB. I have a friend with the Evo, and he loves it. I was ready to switch to Sprint. I was on the Evo forum when I read about the TB.... Been reading up them ever since.

I still may go TB. Lots of stuff on this site is a foreign language to me... Rooting, Froyo, blur, yada yada yada. I am very familiar with Apple and the Apps store and the way it works. I know the iPhone would be like a small iPad that makes telephone calls. And I really like my iPad. But, I really want to try android.

So, color me confused but patiently waiting to take the plunge.

Willdogs, you are correct. Technology is changing faster than ever. Back when I first started using cell phones they were the size of a lunch box. My first cell phone in 1992 was a Motorola flip phone, with 50 minutes a month. No one had ever heard of texting. It was a big deal getting a phone with a camera!

But, now, other than faster and faster, I think the TB and Bionic will have all I need. I want 4g, and staying with Verizon is easiest. And, they absolutely have the best coverage. So, after the Bionic release I will stop chasing rainbows and decide.

I was going to wait a little longer but my wife didn't want to use her upgrade which was due back in September of last year. She is pretty satisfied with her Incredible which I also had and replaced with the Thunderbolt. I used her upgrade and purchased the Thunderbolt under a 1 year contract. If she wants to upgrade later, she will use my upgrade which comes up in September. From now on all my upgrades on my family plan (5 lines) will be on yearly contracts. Two years is to long to wait to get a phone replaced.

I was up in the air with this phone since I got it on launch. I have owned pretty much every device out there (OG Droid, Inc and Fascinate). The battery on the TB was terrible at first. I have done a lot of bumps and full charges. It has gotten better for me. The only thing my Fascinate has over the TB is the display and camera. I'm really starting to like the TB and my wife LOVES hers. She had the Inc since release and loved it. I have noticed LESS bugs in this phone than any of the others that I have owned. My only problems is Tango SUCKS!! I travel and really needed the video chat to work. I am in a 3g area only, but Tango is so choppy it is pointless to use.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a long-time Verizon customer but after playing with the TB last Thursday at the store, I just wasn't blown away by it. Granted, the 4G speeds were very impressive, and in my opinion, the 4G capability is what is selling this phone. If it were 3G only, it would be "just" another phone. I'm happy with my Droid X for now and I'll wait out the next few months to see what else gets released. The preliminary spec's on the Evo 3D look impressive, and the bigger stock battery is also a major positive. It will be a fun Spring/Summer to see the phone manufacturers battle out the spec wars!

I'm using the 1930mah extended battery and I can easily get over 24 hours of heavy use out of it, and it only added 1mm of thickness to the back of the phone...it still looks stock. I'm sure people will take exception, but it appears to me that HTC rushed this phone out to Verizon just to be the first one utilizing LTE. It's nothing groundbreaking otherwise. Let's hope Moto really puts out a good product with the Bionic. I'd certainly prefer to stay with Verizon but Sprint and other carries have some tempting phone selections coming up which will make for a difficult decision.

I got the TB on Friday and all in all it's a very nice phone. It's a definite improvement over my current htc evo 4g, but is it a giant leap, no. If the LTE in my area gave me the speeds I had in the store I might think differently. Sometimes it's on par with my evo 4g. Nuts! When you hear that remarkable devices coming down the pipeline really soon with dual processors and qhd screens I am having pause for thought. I like HTC phones bottom line. Never have cared for Moto's and Samsungs. I am going to take a few more days to think about it and see what Sprint has up their sleeves with the new evo 3d which from the pre released information shows a remarkable upgrade to the original evo...I hate the idea with staying with Sprint. grrrrr... what to do...

I totally respect your opinion. To each his own. I'm not a Moto fan boy by any means. I would love to borrow someone's HTC phone for a few days to really put Sense through its paces. I've heard mostly good things about it. I use Launcher Pro or Go Launcher EX so Blur is a non-issue for me. I'm still tempted to jump on the TB if not for any other reason, to lock in the $29.99 unlimited LTE data plan for a while. 4G speeds here in Cincinnati are impressive to say the least.

I suffered in these forums along with everyone else waiting for the TB (just look at my post history). The TB was to be my 1st smart phone! But alas I lost patience and went with the iphone 4.

I realized I made the right move when I got home and transferred 100 + songs onto the phone from my macbook in a matter of minutes. The battery life has turned to be pretty good, basically at 30% when I get home after a 10 hour work day. The TB battery life wouldve been bad for me, android really needs to improve in this area before I go android. I see mainly support threads in this forum, not a good sign I guess...Glad I lost patience
