Root Just flashed Nectarchy 4.3.4 kernal

On Mikfroyo's 4.5, works excellent. Just attempted to flash a new kernal simply for more efficient battery comsumption. read a bunch of people using the Nectarchy 4.3.4 havs more nosbc. I know the devp. suggested that clockword mod recovery doesn't always clear cache/dalvik correctly but i did it through that method anyway and it seems it flashed correctly and is stable.

The Question: Only thing i noticed differently post kernal flash is when i turn the screen on, my clock no longer flickers from some prior time to the current time. I see some black movement behind the clock but the time never actually updates with that old themed style time update and it doesn't display the correct time anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this?? I do enjoy having my front main clock widget show the correct time.. FYI, the time on the un-lock bar and the status bar are always correct...

weird, i just flashed the more havs kernel and no issues so far. did you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing? could be a bad download. try wiping cache and dalvik cache. if it is still doing it maybe re-flash the kernel.

The OP wiped cache/dalvik cache w/ CW, but we all know CW has had past issues w/ wiping, if at all.

I'm not sure if you use ROM Manager or not, but if you do, and you're comfortable enough w/ doing things manually, flash an alternate recovery (RA Recovery)....It's just an overall more solid recovery. If you don't use ROM Manager, you can find the newest version of RA here:

What Ocn recommended is what I would've recommended, wipe cache/dalvik cache and reflash kernel.

yeah, i forgot that clockwork mod was involved. i agree with frenchy in that amon ra is a better way to go. also i would recomend using Calkulin\'s_FORMAT_ALL.zip in addition to wiping, just to ensure that you have a clean wipe.

Earlier, i decided to normal reboot thinking maybe it was some kind of glitch and it wouldn't come out of the white HTC Evo screen so i had to pull the battery and boot into recovery to restore to what i thought was my earlier backup. I learned the hard way that if you try to re-name the nandroid backup in rom manager it apparently does NOT create one. I had to boot from a back up from 2 months ago that did not include any of the additional add-on's, themes, data, and apps on the Rom. Live and learn.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. There's a reason we all stand behind and recommend Amon RA Recovery, these types of things don't really happen too often, if at all while using it.

yeah go for amon ra. rom manager is to buggy and it is always good to do things manually. i'm gonna buy a cable tomorrow and see if this hdmi mirror app works with this kernel.

I went with RA recovery and made a fresh back up, wiped cache and dalvik cache, then tried to flash the beta 4.3.4 havs more nosbc. Same issue with the clock. So instead i flashed the nectarchy 4.3.1 cfs havs nosbc and it seems a bit more stable. Funny thing though... Had auto sync/data on over night and lost a 12% charge by morning. Not terrible for 8 hours. I hit the gym this morning and use the stopwatch on the phone for 15 minutes and the battery drained from 32 to 22%. Seems a bit drastic.

What hw version are you? I'm running Virus RC1, which is based off of the 3.29 build, with downgraded radio's, and NA's 4.1.9.1 cfs more havs nosbc kernel, and can go 3 FULL days on one charge, with HEAVY use. Every Evo reacts differently to kernels, so keep on trying different ones (ie: 4.3, 4.2.2, 4.2.1, etc.) till you find one that mingles good w/ your setup.

Thanks Frenchy, will be toying around with it later. I'm on mikfro' 4.5 with the 4.3.1 NT cfs havs nosbc kernal, 1.90 PRI. I guess it's just trial and error with finding the best kernal at this point...

For anything, kernels, roms.... trial and error for your phone will be the only thing you will be able to rely on. What works for one phone, may not work for another

Man, even the 4.3.1 kernal, while much more stable when the phone was up and running, locks my phone up after a normal reboot. It won't come out of the white HTC screen and i have to nandroid recovery to the stock #15. Don't know why i have such an issue with these NT kernels, even their 'stable' version.
