List your biggest complaints about Thunderbolt

I wasn't going to bite...but here it goes.

1) Size - you knew this going in, but wow, it's big. Luckily, it's still very pocketable, but coming to grips (literally) with the device in hand still takes some getting used to. it makes the Incredible look/feel like kate moss.
2) Screen - I was expecting something as good as the Incredible. Instead, it's marginally better than the Droid screens - very washed out, low contrast, and for mine, a green-ish tint. Only a disappointment because we know HTC is capable of better
2a) Screen Resolution - you'd think that with 4.3" they'd take advantage of more resolution with the same dpi as the Incredible/Nexus 1. But no. Now I have the large-print-for-the-blind edition phone.
3) Battery - ok, you knew this going in as well - so far, similar to the Incredible, if not incrementally better.
4) Charging port - on the same side as the kickstand. which brings us to...
5) Kickstand - or more like how it covers the speakers. Yes, tiny speakers suck. we don't need to cripple them any more by covering them
6) Lack of optical trackpad - less of a necessity using the sense keyboard, but I prefer swype and having the arrow keys burried in swype makes it more annoying.
7) No Landscape sense (yet) - Not sure how I would like this anyway, but thought this was coming.

All in all, most of these (except the top 3) are very minor gripes, so the speed increases very much wash out these gripes. Size, it might just take some getting used to, battery life - i'm already used to recharging mid-day anyway, and screen, well, unless HTC/VZW releases some sort of gamma correction software, I might just have to bite the bullet on this one.

But on the flip side...
(un)expected bonuses/improvements/likes -
1) Speed. This should really be 1, 2, 3, all the way down to 47...it's not just network speeds (where i'm getting upwards 25-30 mbit down), but even application/processing speed. Who needs dual core when you already have no lag in software? Not to mention, with battery lives how they are now, I don't need help draining my battery any faster
2) 32 GB microSD card preinstalled - that alone could "justify" the higher price tag. It just makes life that much easier
3) Notification LED in the speaker grill - a nice touch.
4) Camera lens flush with the back - just makes more sense
5) Kickstand - placement over the speaker and relative to the charging port withstanding, it's a great little feature
6) Front Camera - haven't really taken advantage of this yet, but being able to impromptu vchat with the kids during work/lunch is something that i'm looking forward to
7) Sense 2.0 Software updates - app switcher in the notification panel, fast boot, etc - ok, so these aren't really TB-specific upgrades, but still, a nice touch.

how did you not know how big it was, didn't you play with it (or at least hold it) before you threw down $250?? I wear skinny jeans sometimes and i have no problem getting the bolt in and out. Is it big in my pocket? Yes, but i knew it would be before i purchased it. I mean no disrespect by this, but please go return your bolt so someone who appreciates android can have it. There will be plenty of iphone's with lack of flash and microsd support, lack of customizations and small processors available for you.

And you're right it's not an iphone, it's a thunderbolt and it is sooooo much better. :d

lol :) :) :)

There is a free app in the market that can be used to change these settings. I work in a warehouse and the signal bounces from 4G to 3G to 1X to nothing like crazy. Changed it to CDMA Auto this morning, and it stays on 3G like a champ.

It's called Phone Info, by SC@Taiwan. Highly recommend it.

....
So basically you would only toggle this when in a 3G only area, right? Because I'm having the same issue with it bouncing around like a jumping bean when I'm out of 4G range.

I wonder if they could have made the kickstand open both ways so we could have charged it in landscape if we wanted.

Other than those 2 things so far it's holding up pretty well.

I thought I was going to get it but I didn't for the following reasons:

  1. I am not in a hurry for a new phone. I wan't to wait for a couple of weeks past CTIA to get the release dates of some of the other phones.
  2. I have a Nexus S which is a great phone on an OK network. I wish to be on verizon for the 4G as well as the network. But the stock Gingerbread UI of the Nexus S is so much smoother than the Thunderbolt. I might even wait till Thunderbolt gets Gingerbread to compare.

Here are my complaints:
Size That's what she said. I am a guy with small girly hands and this thing is too big. I didn't realize this before I bought it, how would I have known? I like to wear skinny hipster jeans and this phone doesn't even fit through the pocket hole!
Weight It is heavy and feels like a brick! Lifting it feels like a workout! I am a heavy guy (mostly fat, no muscle) and it feels painful to hold sometimes!
Not dual core I don't even know what that means or how that will improve the phone but I want it because it sounds cool! I heard my friend say that the youtube videos load up faster on his Atrix by about 0.5 seconds. That is 0.5 seconds of my life that I'm not getting back.
Screen It's not a retina display! I heard those are made by apple and they look like a retina or something cool like that.
It's not an iPhone I thought it would be an iphone but it's not an iphone.

/s

You say it is so heavy it is painful to hold , not as heavy as a couple of 1/3 pounders at Burger King . Bet you don't have a problem lifting them.:rolleyes:

Much of my issues have already been said, but I'll jump on!

1.) Kickstand. I love it to death, but why is it covering our puny speakers? I don't notice much of a difference, but it's there. Should have been a hole filled kickstand. Not like it's supporting THAT much weight..

2.) Audio in video recording too quite. I made a thread about this, and most people are having the same issue, making me think it's just a bug. Voice recorder is loud as shit, while the audio in a video is way too quiet.

3.) LED. So hard to see from a lot of angles and it's so dim. My OG Droid was perfect.

4.) Volume/Power button. Could be pushed out a little bit.

5.) Bloatware. Nuff said.

Otherwise, I still give this phone a 8/10. It's amazing.

I haven't been able to mess with my phone too much, but so far what I have noticed is that Vibrate and silent are not options on the shutdown screen. You have to go into your settings and change it in your sound mode. I had a problem with it switching from vibrate to silent but that seems to have fixed its self somehow.
Also the kickstand position doesn't allow for you to charge the phone. Would have been better to have the charging port on the right side of the phone under the volume controls.

Battery Life is good, I went through a normal 8 hour work day texting, facebooking and phone calls throughout the day and still had a decent amount of battery left.

I had seen some people had a problem with swype for the keyboard. I downloaded slideit and it works amazing.

Yeah. My biggest complaint is the build quality. I have light leakage all around the bottom of the phone, and also if I press with any kind of pressure on the search button on the phone, the LCD in the bottom of the screen goes black. Not very good build quality there HTC.

Doesn't mean the overall build quality is bad, just that you got a lemon. I would exchange it for a new one. Mine has absolutely zero leakage.

Copy of an email I sent HTC about the HORRIBLE battery life.

I purchased the Thunderbolt from Verizon on the 18th. As you must well be aware of by now the 1400mAh battery that comes in the device is ridiculously small and underpowered for this device.

I am about to return this device as are several co workers and friends of mine. I am getting 4 to 5 hours of life with only one 5 minute call, ten minutes on the internet and all settings set to manual sync.

This is in a full 4g area. I am very very upset with this! I feel HTC could have put a 1750 or even 1850 mAh battery in this device, I have seen smaller and thiner devices equipped like this. ie the Motorola Atrix 4g.

I would love to keep this phone but I do not feel I nor anyone else should have to buy another standard or extended battery.

I feel HTC should provide free of charge either a free standard battery with external charger, free extended battery and door or design and issue a free "slim fit" higher mAh battery.

Please let me know how you plan to approach this stumbling block on an otherwise BEAUTIFUL device.

Right now, my only biggest complaints are with the LED and the bloatware. I intially had battery woes like so many others but it has gotten better each day. I got over 20 hours today off a full charge and still had 20% when I put it on the charger.

The bloatware is kind of no harm no foul, since the space can not be used for media anyway- only for apps, but seems some of the allocation may be due to the Blockbuster app to store video temporarily. I prefer the Netflix app since member. Considering the Netflix app only tales up about 8mb and plays great on my iPod 4 using the Incredible to tether. Netflix app would be very nice on the TB. Not happening on the Inc due to no needed DRM keys in the chipset :(

You have 2.4gb of app space and large data files get pushed to the microsd card anyway. This means 2.4gb will last you a loooooong time :) Less space on the microsd left though :(

If you try to stuff all the media you can on your sd card you will notice. Others will not.

Let us know what they say, that is actually a very well thought out and professional e-mail. Kudos to you for not getting all emotional and irrational. Again very nice e-mail.

This complaint may sound silly to most, but I used my Eris all the time for music. The Thunderbolt makes listening music a lot more annoying! Not only do you have to unlock the phone to get music started, but if you have the stock music widget on the page, hitting the play button doesn't simply start playing your music unless you already have music playing (Lets say you restarted and turned the music app off)!!! This is very annoying for me, because then I have to open up the music app and select a song to play. On the Eris if you hit play, it would just resume from wherever the music was last time the application was being used.
I guess this is a dumb complaint, but wow; I can't believe my Eris does something better than my new Thunderbolt! o_O
