I just read this from tmobile site.

--------------------------------------------------
Is it compatible with the HotSpot @Home service?

No. Unlimited HotSpot Calling (formerly named T-Mobile HotSpot @Home) is not available on the T-Mobile G1, although the device can browse the Web over high-speed wireless connections including Wi-Fi and T-Mobile's 3G network.
-----------------------------------------------------

right now I'm using blackberry curve which have wifi in it so I'm able to connect to any wifi to use the phone. so when I'm home, I can make free calls whenever through wifi.
I thought I would be able to do that with g1 too but now I'm not sure..
anybody help me understanding here?
does that mean I can only use wifi for internet? not for phone calls?

but I'm not in hotspot@home program. I didn't pay for it. I just connect my phone to wifi and make free calls.
so That won't happen with G1?

You can make the calls over wifi using your curve, but they are not free, they are still taking your minutes. If you however have the H@H feature on the curve which is $9.95 a month, THEN they don't take your minutes while talking on WIFI. Trust me I have a curve and love that feature, but right now the G1 wont have the UMA H@H from TMO available..hopefully in the future, . :)

really? that's weird...
cuz I am still able to make a call when I turn of tmobile and only connected to wifi. and every month it says I only use less than 30 minutes. and I know I use for hours talking with friends and family.

I tried turning off the cell service and jus leave wifi connected. If I try to make a call it says not registered on a network.
