I barley have enough battery to use the phone let a lone to watch a movie on it lol... even if i did watch a movie though id be doing it on my 46 inch not my 4.3 inch phone lol.

The kickstand is more for short Youtube watching. The port is designed the way it is because of the media dock (that has two speakers and a charger for an extra battery), and the car dock. Both of those devices allow you to charge while you watch a movie or listen to music in landscape mode.

(although I would not suggest the first one if you are driving... )

They could have hinged the kick stand from the opposite end so it would not effect docking the phone and the USB would be pointing up when on the stand.

Not to mention covering the speaker with it....

I felt the same way at first. My phone has replaced the my bedside clock, so its nice thats its upright. When I go to a bar and want to watch the game I'm usually not going to be able to charge it. If you put the charger on the other side then the volume buttons would be affected in docking mode, putting it on the bottom/end would mean that there could not be a dock for it. My wife has the multimedia station for the motot x and I can't wait for a station for the TB to arrive. I have a unit for the car but I might get the car dock as well. i will have the phone for some time.

I do admit it is odd where they placed the port. The evo has the port on the bottom end.

My thoughts exactly.
If they would have built it with the port on the other side, they would have sold substantially less multimedia docks.

This was rather stupid I admit.

I have found that if I rotate the phone 180 degrees (so the Micro USB port is on the top), and have the charger plugged in, the charger cord helps relieve some of the weight of the phone, and the TB will sit up on the kickstand. For me, problem solved!

Hope this also works for those who really love to watch video and charge their phone at the same time!

Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. What I dont like is the cheap piece of plastic at the bottom that fills the gap and leads to light leakage.
