Help Text Message Memory Full

Its stupid notifications like this that is all the more reason why I want to jump ship to another smartphone. I just spent a good hour trying to figure out why I cannot get any text messages and why the stupid Low Space icon along with the Text Message Memory icons won't go away. I still have yet to figure it out and I DO HAVE an app called "Quick Systems Info" that includes a Clear Cache Cleaner button.

All the apps that CAN be moved to my SD card have already been moved. Now my email storage was using my internal storage and I recently moved that to my SD card and that seem to fix things but then today, I got both notifications again.

Finally, I got rid of it by powering off my phone and letting it sit for a few minutes before powering it back on. When it came on, the icons were gone and i was able to receive my text messages again.

I think I am going to have to do a Factory Data reset on the phone (something Verizon recommended a while back). I have been meaning to do that for some time now.

Data reset would probably fix it for a time, but I would look deeper to find out exactly what is filling up. how many text messages do you have? I'm not ure, but I think some third party messaging apps allow you to save you text to the SD Card. Next, have you checked the settings in the messaging app, specificly the setting about "Text message limit"? default is set at 200, that might be at its limit. Then, it might not be that you are running out of internal memory, to check that, go to Settings>SD Card & Phone Storage, then look at the bottom and see what it says under "Internal Phone Storage" Take a look at those things and let us know.

Well I clear out my big threads when I get that notice. I have my text limit set to 320 and MMS set to 60. Im using the messaging app that came with the phone. My internal Phone Storage is 26.52MB

You using any widgets? as I have over 1000 text messages on my phone and are stored in the internal memory and I get no low memory warning.

I use Quick System Info too and find the Sort options available under Preferences in Application tab helpful. You can sort by Total, Application, Data, or Cache sizes. You can select Sort order too, with Descending putting the big boys at top of list.

Moving apps to SD can be helpful but there's quite a bit of variation among apps in how much remains stored internally. You can see this by looking at application Storage data before and after. (In QSI, tap app name, then Manage. Alternatively, native Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and tap app name.)

There are times when Factory Reset is indicated, but in this case it seems like more bandaid than solution. Immediately following, all might be groovy, but once apps are reinstalled and used for a while, it'd likely be deja vu all over again.

First, Are you rooted?

Second, How many texts do you have your stock messaging app set to keep?

Third, have you thought about using SMS Backup & Restore (from the market) to backup your current texts and then delete them from your phone?

@Kratos Im not rooted. I have text limit set to 320 and MMS set to 60. I only have one person where I let my texts get up into the 300 range but I do delete them after a few days. I do have the SMS Backup and Restore as well although I don't really have a use for it as I immediately save photos onto my SD card that i get via text. Is there a Cache for the text message app that might need clearing?

I use CacheMate for root users and I don't see anything about SMS or MMS. I would think that there wouldn't be any cache included in the messaging app since it wouldn't be storing any web pages, pic, etc...

I'm assuming that your app "Quick System Info" shows you how much internal storage you have and are using. If so, what is shown as being free? If that app doesn't show you how much space you have free, try Android System Info (from market) and it will show this info...

By default all apps store their data in internal memory. Don't overlook that when looking into what's using up internal memory.

Also, you can see how much memory the SMS/MMS messages are taking up by looking under Dialer Storage.

I had a ton of issues with memory and text messages storage being full once I restored everything to my refurbished phone...
