New Sense UI for Gingerbread

i dont mind the fact its 5mp, what i mind is the fact that my OLD nokia n95 took better pics (inc it was better at taking moving objects too) than the 8mp on my DHD today?? as before, its not all about the MP's on a phone....just wished HTc teamed up with a proper photography firm and produces better sensors and lenses. Any one for Leica?

Im interested to see how 3D develops on phones, esp on the gaming front...tho...boy, imagine if you were drunk or smoked a lil summin...man 3D must be trippy! lol

It's a trade off I suppose, you have a phone that happens to take pictures as opposed to a camera that happens to be able to connect to the internet and make calls. You won't get a camera that is also a phone.

The Nokia N8 for example, a great camera, let down by a rubbish OS. I think the general consensus is if people want to take decent photo's, they'll get a decent camera.

Reminds me of this though -

And it's not meant to be used by children under 6?

That's right. They actually officially recommended that under 14s don't use the 3d feature at all, bit they have no medical proof it will harm them anymore than us in a 30 minute period.

I can see phones coming with these warnings.... if I have a 3d capable item ill want to use 3d as often as possible... why fork out the extra for the capability if you could seriously screw with your brain by using it... its daft!!
On another note.... I like that they have dual cameras for 3d photos and video. Did anyone catch the gadget show where they made a 3d movie using the same method???

Hmm...ok then why not an N8 with android then? :D if Nokia can do it right that piece of camera hardware, why cant HTC?

No idea

Potentially because the N8 was (apparently) make or break for Nokia and they decided to go all out? Where as HTC are an emerging (yet one of the most well known) manufacturer and they knew that people would buy their handsets regardless of spec. Essentially they could afford to cut corners?

That being said, in the right conditions, the camera isn't all that bad. I got some cracking pics of my wee man in the park today.

It's not just the HW, it's a trade-off for system resources.
The cybershot phones, for example, are basically a camera with phone capabilities, which is why they gave such good pictures.
Not only that, camera capabilities was a big selling point back then, not so much anymore as people want it to do a heap of other things too.

If you remember, phones were phones plus some other specific job that they were good at, eg phone+great music player, phone+great camera, phone+good satnav etc

I'm afraid with so much more going on in phones these days, taking a picture (which takes a lot of system resources) takes second place, as it has a whole bunch of other stuff to do.

Some, such as the iphone & N8, have OSs designed to dedicate more resources to the camera, HW & SW.
This is probably because they are marketed as more of a social networking tool, for which a good camera is necessary.

Not the dhd though, i'm all booted & rooted.

... & now they've got 3d to deal with
