EC05: Love it, hate it... .::Feedback Only::.

Awesome! Thanks a bunch. The only problem I've found so far is that there doesn't seem to be a default Music widget, which I find odd...

Right, any Froyo update ditched the built in music widget which I wasn't happy about either as I use it with WidgetLocker. However, if you search for "Galaxy S Music Widget" it's the exact same thing as before, but now it has a "back" button as an option when you install it too :D

LOTS of posts moved. Please keep this thread to FEEDBACK about EC05. Love it... tell us in this thread. Hate it... tell us in this thread. Did it bork your phone... tell us in this thread.

Have a support question about the update? Post it in the Support and Troubleshooting subforum! :D

Personally, I've had a few times where the phone doesn't want to lock but won't unlock either (like the lockscreen flashing on/off) but hitting the power button resolves it. Additionally, I still have calls that say dialing but never actually dial (had this since DI18).

Other than those 2 issues I don't have anything that bothers me (including browser checkerboarding).

Posted before; as stated no issues, everything seems to work... In fact, have to search to find differences...

Although for some reason the Front Indicator Light (LED) no longer comes on for new messages or email. It used to... (?)

Edit: Actually, it is blinking, just not as often. It used to blink about every five seconds; now about every 30 seconds...

YMMV,

Hello everyone.

I got my epic a few months ago (October), but I stopped really playing with it because of the lack of Froyo.

Today I read about the Froyo update being pushed OTA, and I checked several times only to see it has not come yet.

I downloaded the generously provided packages from one of the users on this forum and it worked!

My experience with Froyo:

After I installed it from the package, my phone became extremely slow. Apps crashed, everything was very sluggish. In fact, it was very hard for me to do anything at all. The first sign was the extremely long taking time of the booting. I was stuck at the S for quite a while.
I decided to back up all my contacts using the free version of MyBackup and restore the phone, and I did exactly that.
After restoring, the phone went back to normal. Nothing was slow. Everything worked perfectly.
My favorite thing about Froyo so far is the improved music application. I seriously hated the last one. I was constantly using other apps like MixZing, but that didn't have the professional feel and felt really sloppy, it just wasn't for me. Another thing I really enjoy is the new slide down thing, it has a lot more features.

Overall, I think the Froyo update was great. Whether the wait was worth it or not, I don't know. I'm just glad its here, and now its time to wait for gingerbread. To all those that are going to say that if it took us this long to get Froyo .. gingerbread, just because it took us a while to get Froyo doesn't mean Gingerbread will be the same. Then again, I'm being optimistic here.

I was just wondering if anyone else experienced the slowness after the update. It was probably just me because of the huge mass of apps I had installed.

Mine was the same way after the update and just powering it off and back on once appeared to fix it and now everything seems fine.

I was excited about Froyo with all the new stuff. Now I want to know if everyone or just a few have a battery life worse than before. I had my phone fully charged when I went in for work and 12 hours later I return to my truck and the phone was DEAD no battery life whatsoever....DEAD DEAD DEAD..... Now I only have 3g/4g on and everything like GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth OFF.
One other thing I get is a ROAMING notice and I'm not nowhere near ROAMING???

CONS
My battery life is terrible, but I didn't do a clean install of it either (factory wipe prior to installation of update). I was playing around with it some last night I literally could see the battery percentage dropping. Today, without even doing anything with it, the percent dropped from 97% to 92% in about an hour. I am going to dig around and see if it is just a bad app...

Shoot Me doesn't work without root access anymore.

I had reported earlier that the Apps2SD function wasn't working, but it is. The phone doesn't show the change of app size that is still stored on the internal phone memory (even if you put the app on the SD card, there is still some portion of the app still stored on the phone).

Browser lags compared to the Eclair version.

Inability to switch to a silent mode...only vibrate, but this is a function of Froyo 2.2 and not a Samsung or Sprint issue.
EDIT: Found the solution to this...The only way to get total silent mode is by going to menu>settings>sound>vibrate>never or only when not in silent mode

PROS

Improved SD card mounting.

Call log fixed from the EB13 update.

Horizontal Calibration available in stock Display settings.

Silent Mode available in drop menu.

Improved reception (added an additional bar of service in most places I've been so far).

Browser experience has some more bells and whistles.

Sprint ID is less than 400 kb without any packs installed, so not nearly as bad of bloat as everyone was expecting.

I do really like the marker for when you are editing text to get you at the exact location you want as well.

In general, I like the new version. I just don't like the new texting UI.

I use the texting feature a lot and don't like how the new user interface wastes so much vertical space. Is there any way to get the old interface back? I was hoping for a "classic UI" setting, but there does not seem to be any setting for this.

Handcent...unless you are a person who tries to keep it pure. I believe you are able to change which app opens up by default on the bottom of the homescreen as well with the Froyo update...

I am in Nevada, received update last night.

The odd thing so far is that one of my Podcasts that I had paused playing in BeyondPod player just starts playing. Even more odd is that when I go to the Podcast player, the podcast is still in a paused state, - really weird.

I have re-booted the phone and it happened again while I was listening to Pandora - then the podcast just suddenly stopped.

No update needed yet for the BeyondPod application, either
