Unless my thinking is wrong, i don't think i want to downgrade from an 8mp camera to a 5mp, when not taking 3d pics....phone is plenty fast for me and with the upgrade to the new launcher, if we get it, i'm gonna stay with original evo....

We have no idea how good the sensors and software is. The 5MP pic taken by the 3D mught actualy look 10x better than the 8MP pic taken by the EVO. I would be utterly shocked if they kept everything the same and downgraded to 5MP. THat doesn't make sense to me. I am banking on a camera that takes nicer still than the 4G as well.

Exactly, I don't believe that people still don't understand that the amount of mp a picture has has nothing to do with quality! You can have a 100mp picture that would still look like crap and a 1mp picture that can blow it away based on the sensor used.

MP has to do with the size of the photo, not the quality! It is so annoying reading all of these posts with people saying they won't downgrade to a lower mp camera on their phone.

You would think at least all the geeks in these forums would understand the concept!

Also, I saw in a video with the EVO 3d the rep mentioned it is running Sense 3.0. I will also assume the new lock screen goes with the newer version of Sense. So the question is will the EVO be upgraded to Sense 2.0 or 3.0. I assume 2.0. They will keep the good stuff for the new flagship in my opinion.......

Well i did state "unless i'm wrong" in my post because i wasn't sure how MP ratings applied to picture quality, thought it was pixels per inch, not total pixels of the photo...

so sorry to have "annoyed" you....

Sorry if i'm not "a geek in this forum" that understands the concept....

It wasn't a personal insult towards you and you were actually asking about it more then stating a fact but I have read so many posts of people saying they won't upgrade to the 3d because of the lower mp camera. I am betting the EVO 3d camera will run circles around our EVO camera now.....So unless you are going to print a picture in life size poster form, 10 or 12 mp's are pretty pointless.

But now that you have been educated, go spread the word to everyone else! MP does not equal a better camera. As a lot of people stated, the iPhone with a lower MP camera runs circles around our EVO's.

If you use the camera program Vignette in the app store, it actually suggests setting the camera to 5mp's for the best quality and color photo. Bottom line, it is the sensor used in the camera that dictates how well the picture will come out, it is the mp that dictates the size that the picture will be.

i understand there are more parts of a camera that affect its quality of pics. MP is just one part of that.

100mp vs 1mp.. is an exaggeration and will be total domination by the 100mp but i get the point.

still there is no confirmation that the new cam is better than the old cam. I do hope so..

What's more shocking to me is the number of people that are willing to overlook the 3D because of (perceived) camera quality. It would be a bummer to have a downgraded camera, but is that really what so many of you are looking for? A phone wiht a really nice camera?

I don't carry a camera and a phone, so I would like my phone to have a camera that takes decent pics, Don't forget I came from a palm pre which took horrible pics, so the evo camera blows it out of the water, so yes kinda, i want a phone with a nice camera. the evo does everything else i need my phone to do, calendar, alarm clock, gps etc etc, and i'm in a 4g area so thats awesome too...

Plus i don't have a 3d tv yet to view 3d pics and video on, nor do my friends yet so the 3d, although cool new tech, i could wait a year or so till its more commonplace, kinds like when hdtv first came out, what good is a 3d image if i can't share it with anyone but me? I'm not going to drive across town to physically show a friend a 3d pic i took because he can't see it on his blackberry

I actually have been reading about it online since your post, and learning a bit more on this, turns out i was under the wrong impression as to "megapixels" so thanx in a way for your comments

I would hope so since every other spec is better on the phone, but what if having to squeeze 2 cams for 3d didn't leave enough room for 2 better cams? And why not use 2 8mp cams? why 2 5mp? Are they in fact better? Love some real answers on this, i guess time will tell.....

2x 8mp or 2 x 5mp... cost is my theory why not.

their was rumored that the 2 5mp cams will be combined to take on pic...in 2D... for a total of 10mp 2D pictures. never seen this done on any device before... so take as you want.

i heard the same, but in one of the "hands on" video's i saw the HTC rep said flipping the switch from 3d to 2d disabled the camera toward the middle of the phone, and only used the camera toward the top end of the phone

I suppose I should have clarified. By 3D I simply meant the new phone (as in the EVO 3D and everything she comes with), not the actual feature. I am just as unimpressed by this 3D nonesense as the other guy. Let me put it another way. My girlfriend has a DInc, which has a 5MP camera, and the picture quality is undescernable from the EVO 4G's 8MP pics. I wouldn't necessarily expect better pictures, but I would, without hesitation, bet that the camera will be at least as good visually.

I guess time will tell, i've watched a few "hands on" videos and so far from what i've seen, not much said about 2d pics, which is to be expected i guess because they are showing off the 3d feature, but without seeing pics taken by both phones side by side, i guess we won't know much about the new phones camera....If my evo gets the sense update and gingerbread, the only reason for upgrading would be more speed, as of now this phone flies and i'm not inclined to pay more money for a little more speed....

One thing that excites me with the EVO 3d is the higher resolution screen. I thought the original EVO should have had a higher res screen for it's size but I am glad at least the 3d will!

Fair enough. I think the EVO is a solid device. It probably won't stop being people's daily driver until Sprint drops support, along with HTC, along with the mod community... which I suspect will be a very long time. When you have a phone that makes you happy, an upgrade is going to be more of a luxury than a necessity, right?

I don't know enough about how lenses and digital camera technology works. Would each camera essentailly just take 1/2 the total shot then in a scenario like this? It's the only way I can make sense (in my mind) of things matching up in the end.

Wait, what? The Evo 4G has one of the most atrocious 8 mp cellphone cameras in the market. If anything it seems like the dual 5 mp cameras are most likely each better than the 8 mp one(Which basically is the HTC HD 2's camera). They pale incomparison to the cameras Nokia has put out for years and Apple's latest effort.

HTC definitaly has for the most part always made great quality hardware with good industrial design(Usually ruined by carriers. Sprint especially with the htc touch diamond and hero).

Their cameras have been sub-par to just mediocre so I hope even with less "MPs" these twin cameras blow the 8 mp to bits.

As for the phone, other than kickstand and reduced width for the screen it's an expected improvement to the Evo.

No one expected anything mindblowing. The Evo 4G wasn't either. What hyped it was people and Sprint hyping 4G. Otherwise it was an Android/CDMA/Wimax HD2.

Even the Incredible in many areas put out a better effort but due to hype didn't shine in terms of praise. Plus gotta love Evo's large screen.

Good upgrade, 3D gimmick or not it is. Don't like 3D? There's a switch. Never turn it to 3D. Done.
The kickstand issue of overblown. Nice addition yes but not required unless you wanted extra bulk. The charging port location change however I'm not a fan of. But it's no deal breaker. And I've gone over the camera. If HTC focuses on the sensor the twin 5 mps will blow away the underwhelming 8 mp.

As I've stated before though this is more of a phone for new customers or people without an Evo. Most people with Evo 4Gs will want to hold out unless money is not an issue.

It's basically the Droid 2 of the Evo line. Nice upgrade. Original customers want to hold out. As always there's -usually- a mostly better device out there.

True, especially for "gamers" and those who watch the occasional movie on their phone, this and the faster chip will be a godsend for those folks...!!

Especially without the benefit of upgrade pricing, I just got my EVO beginning of Feb., after HP's fail to announce anything that would keep me with WebOS, If and when the pre 3 comes to sprint, it's looking like no 4G and the 5mp camera will probably take only slightly better pics than the horrible 3.5 on the original Pre.

So this summer when the EVO 3D comes out i will have until Feb of next year to decide if I want to upgrade...By then original EVO's hopefully have upgraded to new sense and gingerbread and lots more info will be out about how great this phone is or isn't...

I'm fine with Evo with updates because I very much view phones as items that don't need to be replaced until they don't serve their purpose. I don't need to be on the bleeding-edge all the time, and I'm comfortable Evo will be a very capable phone through the two-year contract I signed when switching to Sprint.

With 4G, Evo does everything I want. A newer Sense and GB will make Evo seem like a new phone to me any way.

HTC would be very business-smart to do upgrades shortly after releasing new phones, but I don't think so many Evos were purchased that it would cannibalize potential customers. At this point, Sprint should be begging for Sense and GB so it can maintain customer retention and gains.

I think there are some other cool uses people will invent for the 2 camera's besides just 3D stuff. I'm sure there will be some interesting apps to take advantage of the 3D tech, it's just the begining.

This is exactly what excites me about the 3D in the E3D. I'm no huge fan of 3D, but then again, it hasnt been done in this aspect yet.

I am highly curious as to what ideas and possibilities there are with the Evo now having 3D.

I'm sure there are plenty of developers right now that are drooling to get their hands on the phone and test it out.
