Oh my Google, get the 3DS!! Unless if you want the red one, which comes out like a month later. But the 3DS can take 3D pictures and have an Accelormeter, or however you pronounce it, so yea. If I had to choose, I'd keep my G2 and get the 3DS. But I'm only going for the Xperia Play since I want the Red 3DS. Which comes out about a month or 2 later. I can wait if I can get the Xperia Play for Tmo please. :D

If you're a legitimate fan of games, get the 3DS for the new gaming experience. Other than the fact that it can play emulators and will have remakes of older but good games, I have a feeling that the Xperia Play won't be a very good gaming experience. The 3DS already has a killer lineup of games that will be released eventually, and there's bound to be more. But check out if any of the games interest you first. Remember, it should be about the games, not the device that you play it on.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the 3DS. Two friends of mine went to PAX East recently and were very underwhelmed with the hands-on time they had with it. They're both over 30 and wear glasses and the 3D feature bothered their eyes within 5 minutes to the point of having to turn it off. Without that feature, it is just a mild upgrade to the existing DS.

I'm firmly in the camp of having one device, so I recommend trying the Xperia Play when it comes out to see if it meets your gaming needs. The benefits of having one device is significant enough for me to warrant waiting for it to arrive before you decide which way to go. In the meantime, see if you can get your hands on a 3DS and figure out if you can use the 3D option or not. If you can't, and the Xperia Play isn't quite hardcore enough for you, it is only another 6 months or so before the PSP2/NGP comes out...

As the OP of this thread, I will end up buying both. I just bought the 3ds and I feel like I wasted $250 only to play it in 2d.

I get dizziness, vomit, and nauseous after playing 20+ minutes in 3d. I get this same feeling when playing fps games.

I still like the system. SF4 is awesome. I will still buy the xperia play on April 14th.

Depends if you are just wanting a game system and already have a smart phone you are happy with. Seems two different things, in spite of the Play being more game centric than other phones.

That said, the 3DS is getting a bad rep real fast for battery life, which is a first for Nintendo, who are known for good battery life in their products. Not to mention the game development appears to be mainly Nintendo and only a smaller than normal list of main devs. Most commercial devs have moved a bunch resources on to Apple and Android dev (mainly Apple). The higher price and lack of games is hurting 3DS sales (at least in the US).

I am an old school gamer, so the Play is the better choice, even if using the Play for just games. No comparsion (IMO). added: I will still probably get a 3DS when the price drops $50- mainly for Dead or Alive and Street Fighter 4.
