Help intro to android

I have never actually used a forum before but I find myself having a few questions about my new lg optimus v android phone. I really like the android os and phone. I am not really a linux or "hacker" kind of guy but I am wondering what all of this talk about rooting is and what the benefits are of rooting a phone. I also do not like a few things about my phone and was wondering if anyone could help me change them.

1. I don't like seeing all of the apps in the launch screen, is there anyway I can add folders to the launch screen to better organize?

2. lets say that I add a folder to the home screen and I want to put 4 apps in the folder. can I select four apps at the same time, like control click on windows, or do I have to move one at a time?

3. are there any good intro to androids or tutorials, or learning android os type things online anywhere that might be able to help me further?

Long press, then add folder instead of an app. You can then drag apps into the folder.

One at a time. It really doesnt take that long to move 4 apps into a folder.

Your owner's manual is a great place to learn about android if you are new to it. Also, just spend some time browsing around the forums here, especially the subforum for your phone, and the Android Applications subforum.

Instead of using the default folders, there are a few apps that I find to be better because the default folder icons are all the same, with the third-party apps you can change the icons, and I find it's easier to organize.

I use Apps Organizer cause it feels more lightweight to me, but Folder Organizer is cool because when you download an app off the market, you get a notification which allows you to quickly put that app in a certain folder.

I like Circle Launcher for putting Apps or settings into folders. Check it out, it pops up the apps in a circle around the icon when you press it.

I am not so concerned with adding folders to the home screen, if that's what it's called, but thanks for the info. I was actually wondering if you could organize by folder in the app launcher screen. I think that is what it is called. It is brought up by the button inbetween phone and web on the optimus. It just has every app on the phone organized alphabetically, and if I click and hold on the blank screen it does not give me any options. If i click and hold an app, it just gives me the option to move it to my home screen.

Also, I am disappointed about not being able to "ctr click" multiple apps, or anything else. Like if i want to add more than one song to the playlist etc. but hopefully they will do something about this in the future.

I guess I really like android, but I would like to have some of the features of Windows as well.

Oh, you're talking about in the "app drawer". I don't know of any apps or anything that will allow folders in there.

Well, an idea would be to use different home screens as sort of folders. What I mean is, I use Launcher Pro which allows up to 7 homescreens. You could use 6 of them as "app drawers" so to speak, and then keep your main home screen clutter free. Say you put 16 folders per screen, x 6 screens would give you what, like 96 folders? Just an idea.

I've been looking around, have googled it, looked in forums, checked my manual, looked in the help section of Android market, so far I can find nothing on how to move an app from the andriod market to my LG OPtimus V homescreen. I hate having to open the market, then look up my apps, then find the one I want and then open it in order to use it. I want to be able to see it on the homescreen and just open it. Click and hold on the app icon of interest in the apps drawer, and then drag onto the home screen or one of the other 4 'side' screens. This action sort of creates a shortcut on the home screen. I'm also new to the Android OS so please excuse any errors in my terminology.

Quoting to maybe clarify a little.

Yes... to the OP... look for an icon that looks like "something" this

It's the bottom center button on your phone's menu.

That will open your app drawer.

Scroll through and find the app you want, and then press and hold your finger on it, and the app drawer will fade away, and you will now be holding your finger on the app on the home screen. Press and hold to move where you please.
