You're going about this backwards. You need to provide your criteria. Device selection is always a highly subjective matter. I don't understand why people always omit this critical info in their request for assistance in selecting a device. It's standard operating procedure for any sort of shopping -- figure out your specific needs/wants and prioritize them. Then you can find suitable matches.

If you're completely clueless then at least browse some of the other "Which device should I get?" and "Which device is best?" threads. The discussions may help. There's no universal best for anything (not just smartphones). If one device was universally best then we'd all be using it.

The T-Mobile G2x. Supports 850/1900 MHz and has 42 mbps HSPA+ capability. Stock Froyo with Gingerbread update already being tested. Same dual-core 1 GHz Tegra2, but only half the RAM, as the Atrix. The only reason to get an Atrix over the G2x is for the webtop docks.

I for one think its the HTC Inspire but its all about preference and i refuse to touch motorola phones.

Atrix or Inspire are the only two worth spending any money all. The x-10 if your looking for a free one. They all have faults and good things about them.

Like one of the previous post said it's better if you outline what you want in a phone rather than just asking "which one should I get?".

But on the other hand At&t doesn't have much to choose from atm. When they get done gobbling T-mobile up we should get more choices.

Too bad it won't get 42Mbs "on AT&T's HSPA network". Best bet would be to get it outright (or on T-Mo before a merger), get it unlocked, then put it on AT&T's $10/MediaNet plan.

Yea that won't work they will put a data plan on won't allow you to keep the 10 plan. Also once the acquisition goes through those speeds will be achevible

My T-Mobile Defy is working on my $10 AT&T MediaNet plan, on UMTS, which was grandfathered before the capped plans were implemented. If I'm able to buy the T-Mo G2x "before a merger", it would still be eligible. However if the G2x was purchased "before a merger", it would not see 42Mbs "on AT&T", since the OP was asking about "best AT&T Android phone".

Its awesome having someone like yourself, who is part of the AT&T integration team, that can let us know definitively how the new networks and technologies will be implemented.

I don't think anyone can answer your question, it all depends on what matters to you, price, size, speed, etc.

I currently have a Dell Streak, I love the 5" screen and that is all that matters to me, since doing the 2.2 update which included swype and some more bloatware, I have been much happier with the interface. I use my device 99.9% on wifi, I could almost go without 3g/4g/5g, it really doesn't matter, I could live with edge, because I rarely use it.

You need to look at what is important to you and the device which matchs your criteria.

I have pretty much the same questions. I have AT&T and can upgrade April 20th. It seemed obvious to me (before even reading this) that I would have to go with the Atrix or the Inspire. It seems like the Atrix has better hardware, but is there anything I couldn't do with the Atrix that I could the Inspire?

As far as my needs go I'm just a geek and want a cool smartphone that I could surf with, use cool/helpful/fun apps, and not be disappointed with within a couple of months. I would love to upgrade ASAP (i.e. April 20th), but I've got no problem waiting if there's like, say, another dual core android phone coming out for AT&T relatively soon.

No no. That's what I was asking. What are they? It wasn't a rhetorical question where I was trying to prove a point. I really wanna know before I go out and buy the wrong one just because the hardware seems niftier.

Well for one better Rom options after root because the bootloader isn't locked also you can use Android to an optimized level as Android isn't optimized for dual cores
