INTERVIEW-Gameloft looks to app stores, TV for growth -- CEO | Reuters

Gameloft Chief Executive Michel Guillemot said Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, where consumers are comfortable using their credit cards to pay for everything from toasters to online movies, provides the perfect platform for mobile games.
"The Amazon ecosystem is controlled where we don't find too many pirated version of our games or malware games, so for the consumers, it will be a safer place to come and get applications," Guillemot said in an interview.

Someone need to tell this guy that there already is a cracked version of Rio floating on the internet.

Every single game can be pirated, PC, Console, Mobile and so on. It really doesn't matter how or where it is sold. One exception can be considered MMO's, but even those have been pirated and put on private servers so they aren't charged a monthly fee.

It is good news that Gameloft will be using a third party market apart from themselves though.

There's cracked versions of photoshop but you won't find that on download.com
The difference is that Android market allows people to bring pirated games and cheap knock-offs. If people want their virus laden warez from some Bulgarian website, what can I do about it? But Google shouldn't allow that junk on their market. It hurts the reputation of all the good stuff that's in there by association.

I really hope gameloft considers putting thier games on amazon. It would make things alot easier to download thier games. I purchased just about every game they put out when i was on iphone but since I made the switch to droid i do miss thier games. I also hope they consider putting order and chaos for android out here as well. That game looks awesome and if it were released for android it would be an easy number one app hands down.

Of course it can be cracked. But on the Market someone can take that cracked copy upload it and then sell it. What I think their saying is since Amazon is curated that the only Gameloft games on the Amazon Appstore will be from Gameloft and it won't get lost in the sea of shitty apps. I really don't think they're saying that Amazon apps can't be pirated.

It took me less time to set up an account and buy a game on Gameloft than Amazon and at least I could actually buy it with Gameloft. On Amazon after setting up an account, a 1-click payment with a credit card, then downloading the store, installing it, launching it and clicking on the app I wanted to be then told so late in the process that its not available outside of the US is a real kick in the nuts.

I don't see why everyone is complaining so much about the Amazon account...Maybe I don't recognize the issue because I've had one for several years and just had to type in my email. The thing with the Amazon account is that it works for everything they do, not just this one app. You use this same account for the MP3 app, the Kindle app (or even physical Kindle device) and the actual Amazon.com store, if not for other things. IMO, having an Amazon account is pretty useful.

I can see however, how it would be frustrating to go through the process to only find out how something can't be used, but even then, had you had the account in the first place, you would have known the instant you tried to get it.

No you don't, I have an amazon account for ages and after several failed attempts to download the store, when I got it to work I had to setup one click payment. After that it just didn't work until I found out, that you need a US based credit card after I read it here in the forum. You don't get any feedback why it isn't working, you just click on the free app and it says you should activate one click payment again and then redirects you to the settings, where it says it is activated.

That's a big incentive to just keep doing it and they know that google will be too slow to respond after the fact. An app gets yanked, an account is pulled (after a lot of money has been made) and another comes back in its place.

Gameloft needs amazon to get through AT&T. AT&T won't make an exception just for gameloft and every other developer who doesn't like the market but they will for Amazon and gameloft just hops on board along with everyone else.
They also need amazon more than you do. Everyone here already knows how to get gameloft games from the website but I bet most android users don't know that they exist because they aren't on any market.
Then there's the issues of all the other games that you don't see on Android because they won't exist until Gameloft makes more money from Android.

This is 100% true. I debunked the myth about only being able to install a game on one device. If it is intended or not, who knows, but currently I can install my apps on any device as long as I am logged into amazon under my account. Also, people can pirate any apps if they really want it that bad so that is no excuse. The reason they want Amazon is to get the ATT customers.

There are 2 kinds of piracy. Some crack the game and offer it for free from some shady website. Nobody can really stop that piracy. But most people want a legit version without risking viruses from some hackers from Buldovia.

The worst kind of piracy is when pirates crack a game and sell it on Google Market. People think it's the legit game, buy it and the pirates make the money instead of the original developer. It's a big profitable scam so they keep doing it and it hurts the reputation of all the good guys because their apps are listed along with these fakes.

I don't get the accusations of pirates making money with stolen software.
If you see some pirated apps, report them correctly and they will be taken offline in a short amount of time (probably 15 minutes). The developer gets his account suspended and will not receive any payment.

It is entirely in our hands to expose these games, as you can see here:

Thanks for the link, good to know.
I had a few developers that don't have their games on Android yet, that asked me what they should do in these cases, that's why I asked this question to Google at the MWC.
I can only quote what Dan Galpin, Developer Advocate for games at google told me, they hired a team in Taipeh in February which should look after this stuff and when you submit a infringement over the links I posted above, it should be checked very quickly.
