my issues: girth considering i can't even use lte here yet, lte kills battery supposedly, the design is awfully square, i dislike the micro usb port because i will never buy the dock, and also, if you wait a few more months the pyramid will be out and it appears to be better in every way. who else really just bought this to be locked in to unlimited 4g? still love the phone though. its just gonna be out dated much quicker than most phones coming out

But how much better of an experience will newer hardware give? Don't fall in love with specs. Its a depressing cycle to be in.

The Pyramid is for T-Mobile and not Verizon. Not a fair comparison.

nope. we've already got root access and custom roms. now awaiting custom kernels.

i've been rooted for a few days now and it's lovely. not that hard to do.

Some may... But I didnt pay all that money to go back to work hunting roms and making sure not to brick my device... For once , Im just gonna enjoy it.... As with my OG Droids, Ill probably start playing again after the warranty is gone...

Locked bootloaders aren't new, and have traditionally presented little more than a speedbump in the case of the HTCs.

An encrypted locked bootloader is the real fail - no worries on that here.

Yes, we're still alive... and just picked up a Thunderbolt! Old-style stuff won't work on it; time for some new techniques. Exciting times.

DROID X has an encrypted bootloader so development is not ideal; kernels can't be developed thar really tweak the hardware, even though ROMs are available.

Thunderbolt will have much better development. But if battery life is critical to you and you don't care for 4G, keep the X.

Bear in mind that those who bought the TB got unlimited 4G pricing which is said to be temporary. VZW is looking to move to tiered pricing. So if you revert to the X you might miss the chance to secure two years with an unlimited 4G plan, unless another LTE phone comes out while the pricing is still around.

For some people the move to the TB was strategic.

My biggest compliant would be battery life, however something else has taken the cake! And I'm really wondering how many others are experiencing it...Bluetooth volume? I have a 2010 Mercedes and I use my built in bluetooth for both my business line and my personal, which is my Thunderbolt. I've used countless phones that have been paired with my car, the incredible, the EVO, Droid X, iPhone 4, Blackberry Bold & Torch, and the Fascinate. I have never experienced a problem with any of them at all, if anything they were louder coming through the Bluetooth. So what gives, is this thing a lemon, or is this widespread, and something that can be fixed with an update?

Why don't you go in and adjust your settings to stop the apps from sipping away your battery. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the battery. Battery consumption in a smartphone is USER based. When you leave your house or apartment do you cut your lights out? What about your car, do you leave the lights on in your car? Well if the answer is no, then turn your send/receive data schedule off on your phone when you are not using it. You are on a CDMA network.

lol nice try. I as well as everyone else complaining has adjusted settings to the point this is barely a smartphone. Doesnt push notifications, 4G turns off, screen is at 33%, etc.

You don't get my analogy. I turn 3G off if I'm not using my device. Unless you are Steve Jobs or the CEO of a company I don't see why some people need their email always pushed to them unless you have a job that requires you constantly monitor email. Even then, I like for my email to download when I open the app. Period...blank.

And a smartphone requires a smart individual to use it. I'm willing to bet nobody fully charged their phone for 8-10 hours after pulling it out the box. Why? Well, I'm going to let you figure that one out. Its a smartphone....

I can tell you don't know how battery power works with this device.

My only complaint is, nobody makes a case for use with the FRICKIN extended battery WTF??? I love the HTC phones but they MUST have a larger battery!!! I had to make my own case for my DINC and I hope not to repeat this with the TB.

No I do and I can tell its obvious you can see the obvious which is the battery is seriously undersized for this phone. You'll see this year as all the good phones have much bigger batteries and you're the TBolt fanboy defending an inferior battery.

1400mah battery. isnt even as big as EVo which is for the sake of conversation, the same phone by same company. so 1400 wasnt good enough for evo yet it is bolt lol

Sorry...I have zero desire to shut 4G off, and IMO a screen of this nature set at anything below 50% is just a waste of beauty. If HTC would have quit screwin around and put a 1750mAh battery in with the TB like they are the EVO 3D, none of these conversations or threads would exist. Most of the battery problems are not the people, some of use are seasoned Android users. But the finger should be pointed straight at HTC, I for one refuse to treat such a device like a dumb phone that's using only 20% of its capabilities.

You are a newb, and I am not a Thunderbolt fanboy. Don't care about your phone. Just trying to help you guys out with an HTC device. I purchased a 1750 mah battery for my EVO 4G before I purchased the phone on launch day. I know HTC devices and I like to be away from a power source as much as possible. Also, my battery doesn't need a special backing. Stop complaining and get a bigger battery and use the tweaks I suggested. Otherwise, keep moving. This forum is to help people. Not for people to just complain. Help yourself....

Slick, I hope you're joking. If not wow, your reading comprehension must not be very strong:


1. This thread is about your complaints. I know that went right over your head but if someone is complaining about flaws in the phone this is the thread for it. Especially a complaint as well documented as the battery issue is.

2. Did all the setting adjustments, it made some difference but not enough to be tolerable

3. No decent size battery for the phone yet. Its either stock or monster 2750mah battery that you cant find a case for yet. When they come out with a 1700-2000mah battery for this phone I will get it.

Until then all we can do is use proper threads such as this to express the phones flaws.

Where have "smartphone users" been for the past couple of years regarding cell phone batteries. Go to the iphone 4 forum and you will hear people complaining about the battery on the phone. I really dislike when people tell me they tweaked their phone. I go into their phone and their is tons of apps doing their own thing. Yet, I was told the person tweaked their phone. Actually, I think I flew from Kyrgyzstan to the states on my stock EVO battery, then switched to my 1750mah the next day. I'm for certain that's what I did. Stock battery works just fine for an overseas trip.

I returned my thundeebolt and went back to my x I get easily 10 more hours with x with the same usage as I did with the bolt... the fact of the matter is this phone is not equupped with the right battery and I would never spend my money on an extended battery tharpt looks horrible.. I would rather keep my x get 24 hrs use with no extended battery than suffer from HTC poor design...sorry dude your not the almiggty android know it all that you think you are stop being a fanboy people have opinions...and my x with gingerbread gets same quadrants with the bolt lol old tech love it

I HIGHLY doubt there is a 10 hour difference in battery performance between the Droid X and the Thunderbolt having to perform the same task. Is it true you cannot turn the 4G radio off on the Thunderbolt? If so, I take my back my comparison.

I did love that about the X... It had a small battery covering also so I used the extended with no back with the Verizon OEM holster case (GideonX whom I bought it from told me this trick).... The case was snug enough to not allow dust, yet gave room for the slim extended battery...It was by far my favorite device before the TB....

All I know better phones bigger batteries in a couple of weeks so no biggie have fun being stuck with that two year with 2 hrs of on time haha
